Children Resource Center is Hiring an Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant Near Bowling Green, OH

JOB SUMMARY:

Appointed by the Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services Board to serve under the Whole Child Matters Grant as an Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant within Northwest Ohio.

The IECMH Consultant would serve in one of two service delivery areas in Northwest Ohio that covers multiple counties. The IECMH Consultant would work in collaboration with the local Child-Care Resource and Referral agencies to connect with family based child care and provide outreach, resources, and education on best practices for infants and young children. IECMH Consultant would provide an indirect and capacity building service to children and families within family based child care settings for children ages birth through age five. They would promote social and emotional development and address challenging behavior using a strength’s based and reflective approach. The IECMH Consultant may be asked to provide trainings for parents and educators as needed.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILTIES:

1. IECMH Consultant

a. Work collaboratively with regional Child Care Resource and Referral agencies.

b. Provide on-site consultation in child care settings regarding behavior management issues and social/emotional development.

c. Facilitate outreach efforts to increase parental involvement in early childhood education programs.

d. Inform parents and professionals about community resources.

e. Maintain accurate and objective records of consultation and training activities.

f. Conduct on-site observations of individual children and groups of children and the caregiving environment at the request of child care personnel.

g. Conduct informal developmental assessments of infants and young children.

h. Assist in the development and implementation of behavior management plans for individuals and classrooms.

2. GENERAL

a. Collaborate with inter/intra agency service providers

i. Demonstrate respect for other professional and disciplines

ii. Participate in cooperative efforts within and across CRC program areas

iii. Articulate client needs and advocate on the client’s behalf

iv. Assist Program Manager in promoting early childhood mental health throughout Northwest Ohio

b. Professional Development

i. Maintain current licensure/credentialing by appropriate Ohio agency, practicing only within the scope of such licensure or certification

ii. Attend regularly scheduled supervision meetings

iii. Maintain CEU’s required by governing bodies and credentialing agencies

iv. Identify areas of needed growth and develop yearly professional development plan

v. Maintain Safety and Self-Care plan

c. Professionalism

i. Conduct self with appropriate professional appearance and demeanor

ii. Promote agency mission, values, and Sanctuary concepts, and comply with professional Code of Ethics

QUALIFICATIONS

1. ECMH credentialed with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education, social work, counseling, early intervention, or other related mental health/social service program. License required. Mental health license preferred. Master degree preferred.

2. Knowledge and expertise in early childhood development – ages 0-8 years

3. Knowledge and experience working with at-risk, rural populations

4. Knowledge and experience working within early childhood systems
