Position OverviewUnder the direction of the Supervisor of Family Preservation, the Family Preservation Clinician will use strong clinical and empathetic skills to deliver community based supportive counseling and be a vital part of the child and family’s clinical team. Plays a key role in providing birth and kinship foster families with a range of supportive services including service linkage; individualized education and training; support related to separation, grief and loss; contact with birth families; and information related to concurrent planning.
  • Provide culturally competent services to families including clinical assessment and intervention, case management, crisis intervention, information and referral to families referred to the family preservation programs.
  • Complete an accurate clinical comprehensive assessment for each family.
  • Develop a family service plan in collaboration with family members, DCYF workers and other Family Preservation team members. Provide copies of the signed plan to the family and DCYF.
  • Implement the plan through the provision of home-based services, including individual and family counseling, parent training, and linkage with schools and community agencies in collaboration with Family Preservation team.
  • Maintain contact and communication with DCYF workers, kinship foster families, community providers as well as other community-based supports. Coordinate 90-day/or as needed case conferences to include kinship foster parents, biological parents, DCYF workers and other relevant persons.
  • Provide training and consultation to biological, kin and public foster families, DCYF workers, family court personnel and treatment providers regarding permanency issues.
  • Conduct thorough home studies and/or home study updates for kin and public foster parents per agency policy and program guidelines. Ensure that all State and Federal requirements are met for licensing or home study approval.
  • Maintain client records and complete all necessary documentation within established program time frames.
  • Provide advocacy and guided referrals to other service systems including DCYF, legal, judicial, medical, educational, human services, etc.
  • Constructively utilize formal and peer supervision to evaluate and improve effectiveness in providing services to clients. This includes active participation in supervision, team meetings and agency meetings.
  • Provide after-hours phone coverage on a rotating basis, for additional compensation.
  • Interact effectively and respectfully with others and particularly with individuals whose backgrounds and life experiences are different from one’s own, ensuring that all individuals are treated respectfully.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, competence and expertise when representing the agency in the community.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development through professional reading and attending relevant workshops and conferences (including Children’s Friend’s core training program).
  • Maintain state licensure at the highest possible level given degree and experience.
  • Provide groups, workshops and training to families as needed.
  • Maintain established productivity expectations.
Qualifications
  • Master Degree in Social Work or a related field and highest level licensure, or equivalent education and a minimum of 2 years’ experience.
  • LICSW, LMHC, LCSW or similar license required.
  • Experience with at risk children and families.
  • Ability to work flexible hours per program needs required.
  • Proven time management skills and relationship building skills.
  • Experience with computer programs including databases, Word and email systems preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, automobile, and auto liability insurance.
  • The successful candidate will be required to meet our pre-employment background screening requirements.
