Summary

The Education Coordinator promotes school readiness by providing technical assistance, mentoring, and training to the staff and partner sites. He/she will promote children's development in all domains to support school readiness goals. This person will monitor all education requirements.

Ambassadorship/Recruitment

● Be informed and committed to CNE’s mission, vision, values and programs and serve as an ambassador in CNE’s service areas

● Identify community organizations/businesses for outreach opportunities

● Conduct ongoing community outreach to identify eligible clients and recruit families

● Attend and participate in outreach events to identify eligible clients and recruit families (evenings and weekends may be required)

Education Services Coordination and Support

● Establish and maintain professional and trusting relationships with CNE and partner site staff

● Provide support, training and technical assistance to CNE and partner site staff regarding the planning and implementation of culturally-responsive, developmentally appropriate curriculum and experiences

● Participate in monthly multi-disciplinary meetings

● Update and implement policies and procedures relating to Education

● Ensure lesson plans are complete and are aligned with the Early Learning Outcomes Framework and the Illinois Early Learning Standards for all program options (Home Visiting & Center-Based)

● Ensure lesson plans are individualized for children that need extra support

● Review ASQ-3 and ASQ-SE2s for all children and collaborate and communicate with the Disabilities Coordinator regarding children that need referrals

● Establish a monthly schedule of on-site center-based visits to do focused observations and train and consult with teachers

● Establish a quarterly schedule (or more often as needed) to consult with each Home Visitor

● Ensure active collaboration with other content area staff such as Disabilities, Family Services, Health and ERSEA

● Provide training to education staff based on identified needs

● Provide parent workshops and training activities within the framework of education and school readiness goals

Leadership

● Responsible for ensuring that compliance with all applicable performance standards, federal, state and local regulations are adhered to

● Lead efforts, create and support the implementation of the school readiness goals in collaboration with CNE staff, partner sites and parents

● Participate in the creation and support the implementation of the agency’s program goals and objectives

● Provide program information and data for funder reports to the Director of Programs/Head Start

● Provide mentorship and support around observations, inclusive practices, curriculum, screening and assessment tools, and school readiness goals for Parent Educators & Center-Based staff.

● Remain updated and knowledgeable about Practice Based Coaching and monitor coaching activities as part of the coaching leadership team.

● Provide feedback/data and participate in Self-Assessment and Community Assessment processes.

● Participate in community meetings as needed.

● Provide information and data for the annual HS/EHS grant application, including input on financial allocations and expenditures

Data and Ongoing Monitoring

● Prepare monthly/quarterly reports for Staff, Board of Directors, and Policy Council as requested

● Develop and/or maintain a monitoring system to ensure education requirements are adhered to for all program options

● Monitor Education data in the ChildPlus database system, including running regular reports

● Ensure that all program options are adhering to the assessment and documentation requirement in Teaching Strategies Gold (TSG) per policies and procedures

● Monitor curriculum activities in consultation with other program and teaching staff

● Monitor and prepare reports for child outcomes data in TSG for all program options

● Plan, organize and lead regular child outcomes data meetings with CNE staff and partner site staff

● Review & monitor all participant files at partner sites in collaboration with the Director of Programs/ Head Start

Professional Development/Meetings

● Attend and participate in regular all-staff meetings, staff training events, reflective supervisions, and adhere to policies, procedures and professional core values/code of ethics

● Complete and participate in performance appraisals in a timely manner

● Ensure completion of the annual requirement of 15 hours of professional development, including but not limited to HS/EHS required trainings

● Seek and attend workshops, conferences, classes and webinars to increase professional development knowledge

Other Requirements

● All bilingual employees are expected to assist with both verbal and written translation/interpretation to the best of their abilities

Required Qualifications

● Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education or a related degree with equivalent coursework in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or equivalent to a Bachelor’s in ECE

● 3-5 years teaching and/or managing in Early Childhood programs, preferably Head Start/Early Head Start Programs

● Fluency in any of the following languages is preferred, but not required: Arabic, Urdu, or Spanish

● General knowledge of current local, state and national resources, services, and benefits programs, including services and programs for families

● Demonstrate respect and acceptance of diverse individuals and communities served by, working in partnership with or employed by, Childcare Network of Evanston, including but not limited to race, gender, ethnicity, social-economic status, and LGBTQ populations

● Must have valid driver’s license and auto insurance when the position requires an employee to operate a motor vehicle in connection with executing responsibilities, which include driving to and/or from any agency function

● Must submit to a criminal background check and a child abuse and neglect screening and maintain a cleared status throughout employment

● Must submit proof of a physical/TB upon hire and update physical/TB as required by the Illinois licensing standards

● Must have intermediate skills with computer applications and have the ability to learn and master computer technology/software programs as required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

● Experience working in a program located in a high-risk community and with families with children from birth to five required

● Ability to engage quickly with families in a sensitive and culturally-responsive manner.

● Experience dealing with families in trauma situations with good crisis intervention skills

● Knowledge of family systems issues including domestic violence, child welfare, and substance abuse

● Ability to correctly interpret and follow city, state, and federal regulations

● Successfully convey and obtain accurate and complete information in a respectful and caring manner, including nonverbal communication or communication with those with language barriers or disabilities

● Ability to develop positive relationships and trust by demonstrating respect, empathy, dedication, positive attitude, and cultural sensitivity to others

● Ability to work in a multi-cultural, interdisciplinary environment and with diverse community-based agencies

● Willingness to engage in, and skillful when having, difficult conversations with staff and clients

● Experience or ability to establish cooperative relationships with various professionals as well as formal and informal community members and resources.

● Attentive to detail, good organizational skills, and efficient time management.

● Knowledge of community agencies in CNE’s service area preferred.

● Ability to relate well and communicate clearly with children and adults.

● Ability to train and provide presentations to large and small groups.

● Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

● Ability to gather and analyze data and write concise, accurate reports.

● Demonstrate reliability, dedication, and initiative in learning, taking action, and meeting goals.

● Ability to model and promote multidisciplinary communication and collaboration among staff.

● Knowledge of, or have the ability to develop knowledge of, the Head Start Program Performance Standards and state regulations.

● Ability to exercise independent judgment and make sound decisions.

● Ability to understand, support, and comply with organizational policies.

● Willingness and ability to be flexible with hours, including evenings, in order to carry out the responsibilities of the position.
