The Department of Principal Quality (DPQ) is charged with identifying, developing, supporting, and retaining strong principal leaders who are committed to actualizing that vision.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of School Leader Transitions, the School Leader Transitions Assistant will contribute to the overall success of the department by performing clerical duties within the department and providing support to the School Leader Transitions team staff. This role will assist with projects such as the administration of the CPS Principal Eligibility process, a competency-based assessment system used to create a pool of aspiring school leaders. This role will also support associated programs, events, and the day-to-day functioning of the team.

This is a part-time/temporary position that will be compensated for time worked on an hourly basis. The work schedule for this role will consist of an estimated 30 hours per week for an anticipated period of 5 months beginning March 2023 and ending September 2023. Due to the part-time/temporary nature of this work, this is not a benefit-eligible position.

This position will work out of one or both of the following CPS office locations:

  • Garfield Park Office, 2651 W. Washington Blvd, Chicago, IL 60612
  • Loop Office, 42 W. Madison St., Chicago, IL 60602

The School Leaders Transitions Assistant will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

  • Perform general administrative duties including answering phones, drafting correspondence and other formal documents, photocopying, and other related clerical tasks.
  • Follow-up on inquiries in a timely fashion; Complee the necessary and sufficient research to resolve issues.
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings and events, including generating materials and organizing logistics for events.
  • Organize and support team workshops, trainings, and special events.
  • Develop and implement systems to organize filing.
  • Enter and maintain accurate departmental data.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the School Leaders Transitions Assistant must possess the following qualifications:

Education Required:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred

Experience Required:

Minimum of two (2) years of professional work experience in a clerical/administrative support, customer service, administrative assistant, or other similar role is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills (Oral and Written)
  • High level of initiative and adaptability
  • Great attention to detail
  • Strong organization skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Google Applications.
  • Knowledge or ability to learn Salesforce (Training will be provided as needed)
  • Interest in Education preferred

Conditions of Employment

As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:

  • Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
  • Be Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19 - Unless approved for a medical or religious exemption, all employees are required to be up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations, including boosters, and to submit proof of vaccination to the district within 30 days of hire. “Up-to-date” on vaccination is defined as being at least two weeks past all primary vaccine doses and any applicable boosters.
