Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is one of the largest school districts in the United States, serving over 320,000 students in 600 schools and employing approximately 40,000 people, most of them teachers. The Office of Equity's mission is to develop, support, implement, and report on district efforts to eliminate the opportunity gaps in education quality, policies, and support for students and adults. The Office of Equity is a cabinet-level office established in 2018. The CPS Office of Equity works hand-in-hand with district offices to ensure each undertaking is pursued with equity as a goal. To drive progress on equity, the Office of Equity oversees the continually evolving CPS Equity Framework, a source of guidance tools, evidence-based ideas, and resources for CPS staff, partners, and community members addressing complex equity issues. Job Summary: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Equity Data Strategist (EDS) will be responsible for collecting, producing, and disaggregating quantitative and qualitative data sets based on categorizations such as race, class, and gender. EDS will report information to the Office of Equity, team members, cabinet members, chiefs, and other stakeholder groups as directed by the Executive Director. The Equity Data Strategist will assist in developing, monitoring, managing, and presenting the Equity Office's strategic priorities and progress. The EDS will design and implement data collection and reporting systems to continuously enhance the quality and breadth of data-informed decisions and communications. The EDS is responsible for the overall management of data staff and data systems. The EDS will also serve as the internal lead on accessing key CPS data systems and will be responsible for managing on-demand data requests to answer key questions about the Office of Equity initiatives and operations. The Equity Data Strategist will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:
Manage, track, and monitor non-administrative major projects/tasks for the Equity Office
Develop meta-analyses of quantitative and qualitative data
Determine metrics and build applicable data dashboards and tracking systems to measure districtwide equity goals in partnership with the Chief Equity Officer and senior leadership
Integrate and associate data sets from multiple industries to create a deep analysis of information
Examine the impact of board policies on schools and student outcomes
Compose sophisticated data presentations that highlight patterns and offer multiple interpretations
Analyze CPS data requests and special analyses, and provide data and reports to external partners
Lead data collection and analysis of equity audits and assessments
Advise the Equity Office and other teams of possible high-level focus areas and recommend strategies for addressing patterns and issues identified
Engage in capacity building with internal staff around data interpretation, analysis, and use to inform practice and strategy
Collaborate with network data strategists, School Quality Measurement team, and other departments to produce comprehensive datasets
Support the coordination of the Equity Office's relationships and communication with network data strategists, schools, other departments, external partners, and agencies
Assist in determining key future analyses and metrics based on findings from external research, literature reviews, and collaboration with external partners
Serve as the initial point of contact for data inquiries and triage issues to resolve them immediately and/or direct them to the appropriate staff in a timely manner
Support all aspects of compliance and regulation for the Office of Equity
Develop and maintain electronic records of data and data systems for correspondence and office reports
Adhere to a set of guiding principles for analytic practice as established by the Data GovernanceCouncil
Participate in the District's Data Analyst User Group
Perform additional ad hoc duties as assigned
In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Equity Data Strategist must possess the following qualifications: Education Required:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, economics, statistics, operationsresearch, data analytics, public policy, social science, or related fields
Master's Degree and/or project management or data analytics certifications preferred (e.g., SAS, PMP,or PMI certifications)
Experience with SAS, SQL, or Microsoft Power BI preferred
Experience Required:
Minimum of 4 years experience developing and conducting data analysis and reporting
Demonstrated ability to examine, synthesize, and develop reports on comprehensive datasets tostakeholders and facilitate conversations and professional learning about data
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Spanish bilingual preferred
Demonstrated intermediate proficiency in using Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and work effectively with minimal supervision while adhering to strict deadlines in a fast-paced, complex environment
Exceptional interpersonal/customer service, verbal, and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate and present information effectively to non-technical audiences at all levels of the organization and external stakeholders

Conditions of Employment As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:
Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
Be Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19 - Unless approved for a medical or religious exemption, all employees are required to be up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations, including boosters, and to submit proof of vaccination to the district within 30 days of hire. "Up-to-date" on vaccination is defined as being at least two weeks past all primary vaccine doses and any applicable boosters.
