Overview

Many of our graduates enjoy careers in general radiography. The majority of them have chosen to pursue careers in specialty areas such as CT, MRI, mammography, radiation therapy, interventional radiography, and the cardiac catheterization lab. New for 2017 is the CHI-Radiology Residency Program that will offer training in specialty areas. The planned expansion will include instruction in ultrasonography, interventional radiography, CT, MRI, and mammography. These tracks will offer full-time employment status while gaining the knowledge and expertise to qualify for specialty certifications.

CHI St. Vincent Health System School of Radiologic Technology is accredited by the Joint Review Committee for Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), which is recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) as an accrediting agency. The St. Vincent School of Radiologic Technology was inspected in 2018 receiving a maximum accreditation award of eight years. The current accreditation status is probation. Responsibilities

The Radiologic Technologist or Radiographer is a vital part of the Radiology Department and the health care team. Responsibilities include patient care, operating radiographic equipment, performing radiologic procedures, and assisting the radiologist. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to apply for admission to the certification exam administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Upon passing the registry examination, the graduate is certified as a Registered Technologist with the credentials, ARRT(R). These credentials allow an individual to apply for active membership in the American Society of Radiologic Technologists.

Today, CHI St. Vincent proudly serves the total health needs of individuals from throughout Arkansas and the mid-South as a member of Catholic Health Initiatives, one of the nation’s largest and most prestigious Catholic health systems.

Qualifications

We offer a 24-month program in Radiologic Technology, combining didactic instruction with practical experience, in order to provide a sound foundation on which to build a career. Student radiographers are educated in the art and science of using radiation to provide images of tissues, organs, bones and blood vessels of the human body. The St. Vincent School of Radiologic Technology has articulation agreements with University of Arkansas Pulaski Technical College and University of Central Arkansas. We provide three educational tracks of completion: an associate’s degree through the University of Arkansas Pulaski Technical College, a bachelor’s degree through the University of Central Arkansas, and an independent track for individuals that have previously completed an undergraduate degree.
