ResponsibilitiesJob Summary / Purpose
Under general supervision, schedules appointments for patients, medical procedures, tests and studies ordered by the physician.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for answering phone calls and scheduling patient appointments.
- Conduct patient pre-certification to ensure coverage for appointments and medical care.
- Schedule tests, procedures, and referral appointments.
- Communicate with patients regarding appointments and instructions for procedures and tests
- Collect insurance information and patient personal data.
- May collect fees such as co-pays / co-insurance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
Required Education and Experience | High School diploma or GED required with some college courses preferred. Courses in and /or knowledge of medical terminology and Surgery procedures. |
Required Licensure and Certifications | None |
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training | Must have previous surgery scheduling experience. Must be able to work with little or no supervision in a high stress environment. Must have excellent organizational skills and be able to make decisions in an expedient manner. Must have computer and applications software experience. Must be able to type 50 wpm on a typing test and pass a medical terminology test. Must have extensive training in PHS computerized scheduling system and be able to train others in the system. Adequate conversational English is required in order that the individual be able to take direction from management, understand how to complete job tasks, communicate adequately with patients and co-workers as necessary, understand and follow safety guidelines, and understand the Associate Handbook and all hospital policies. |
