Chesterfield County is Hiring a Residential Structural Building Inspection Supervisor Near Chesterfield, VA

What You Do and How You Do It:
The residential building inspection supervisor (structural) is responsible for supervising a team of multi-discipline inspectors and is the residential structure and framing subject matter expert for all residential inspectors. You will perform inspection quality control and work with the inspection supervisory team to plan, organize and coordinate inspection functions. This position visits construction sites to assist inspectors, attends site meetings, and resolves code and inspection related problems. You will be the go-to person to resolve problems and answer questions regarding the framing and carpentry aspects of residential construction and inspections. Develop, analyze, and prepare reports based on measures of quality control and uniformity associated with the department's inspection related activity. You will also author numerous letters, memorandums, procedures, legal notices and other documents. Answer questions about the residential inspection processes and procedures. You will also be responsible for developing and coordinating staff training, certification and career development activities. Participate in the development of the Virginia Construction Code, representing Chesterfield at the state and national levels. You may be cross-trained to perform other duties. You must possess the required certifications and remain current with the latest best practices. Everything we do must be done with a customer and results focus. We facilitate safe code compliant construction; we do not hinder the construction process.
Here’s What You Need:
High school diploma or GED; five years of experience in building code enforcement, including one year of experience in a supervisory or lead inspector capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Construction/engineering technology or vocational program degree/certificate preferred. Knowledge of the International Residential Code, Uniform Statewide Building Code and the International Code Council family of codes, and the principles used in the construction of wood frame residential structures. The following Virginia Board of Housing and Community Development certifications are required as a condition of employment: Residential Electrical Inspector, Residential Mechanical Inspector, Residential Plumbing Inspector, and Residential Building Inspector (equivalent certifications from the ICC or other states will be considered); Virginia Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector certification required within 18 months of employment. Excellent communication and relationship building skills are required, as the position must work collaboratively with county staff, other county departments, private sector professionals, governmental agencies, elected officials and the citizens of the county to provide effective building safety regulatory services. You also need the ability to traverse construction sites and climb ladders.

Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview. Record must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
