Chesterfield County is Hiring a Principal Engineer (Environmental Engineering) Near Chesterfield, VA

Bachelor's degree in civil/environmental engineering including coursework in hydraulics/hydrology and five years of increasingly responsible experience in civil/environmental engineering or closely related field including one year of experience in a lead or supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Professional Engineer License required. Strong PC skills and experience with engineering software required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; experience in working with engineers, developers, contractors, and the public essential; and supervisory experience desired. Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Record must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. Review and approval of engineering plans for residentialdevelopment ensuring plans conform to acceptable engineering standards for erosion control, drainage, stormwater management including Virginia Stormwater Management Permit (VSMP) requirements, Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act, Floodplain Management Ordinance, and other state and local requirements. Confer with consulting engineers, developers, and contractors; respond to inquiries or complaints from the public pertaining to erosion control and related issues; develop and enhance the skills of subordinates and coworkers; and under the direction of the Engineering Supervisor, direct subordinate staff. Perform other work as required.
