High school diploma or GED; completion of an HVAC vocational/technical program; four years of journey-level experience in the installation, maintenance, and diagnosis and repair of heating, ventilation. air conditioning systems; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Highly motivated, creative, and progressive. Experience with computerized preventive maintenance systems, repair and maintenance of large Boilers, Hydronic Systems, and Ice Machines. Must hold a Universal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) card. Must hold journeyman trades license in HVAC or be eligible to receive within 6 months of date of hire. Ability to operate and maintain specialized tools used in HVAC and related building trades; to read and interpret manuals, specifications, drawings, plans, and blueprints; to perform physically demanding work including, but not limited to, walking up and down stairs, standing for prolonged periods, squatting, stooping, bending, twisting, stretching, crawling, reaching overhead, and working in awkward positions without choice or variety; to work in adverse weather conditions; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or a major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's ''Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore, requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check.
This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.Inspects, tests, calibrates, troubleshoots, repairs, maintains and services heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and equipment; troubleshoots, repairs, calibrates and installs HVAC pneumatic and electronic control systems and equipment. Performs overhauls of equipment involving disassembly and inspection of all parts, replacement of defective or worn parts, reassembly of equipment, instruments and/or controls, and testing of equipment to ensure proper functioning. Installs, replaces, repairs and adjusts valves, thermostats, fans, pressure and air regulators, filters, belts, condensers, fuses, controls, gauges, air compressors, blowers, dryers and pumps; tests joints and insulates pipes; cleans, lubricates and adjusts systems as required. Diagnoses problems in the distribution of air to individual rooms and buildings and makes necessary adjustments. Analyzes the efficiency of air conditioning systems and recommends modifications. Designated staff for emergency and adverse weather events. Rotating on-call after hours. Perform other work as required.
