SUMMARY: Each counselor is responsible for leading a group of approximately 18 children safely in a variety of camp activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

CAMP DUTIES: • Serve as the Group Leader to the campers, showing enthusiasm in actions and spirit. • Lead and participate in a variety of camp activities such as games, songs, sports, skits and special events. • Follow lesson plans provided by the Camp Coordinator/Camp Director/School Principal. • Supervise children during swim activities; this includes swimming with them, keeping children safe and engaged in the swim/pool activities. • Serve as a good example and role model to the campers, and maintain an appropriate level of professionalism always. • Have fun! Counselors’ excitement will be contagious to the campers. • Actively greet parents each day upon drop-off and pick-up times.

SAFETY/ATTENDANCE • Responsible for the safety and well being of each child in his/her group. • Keep the group of children together and take frequent face to name checks. • Always know where each child in the group is at all times. One counselor should always be present to supervise the group; no child/children should be left unsupervised. • Ensure that all daily attendance records are accurate and up to date. • Supervise the campers carefully to ensure the safety of the children and property. • Maintain a physical environment (indoors and outdoors) which is safe, attractive, and clean.

PLANNING • Planning and implementing small group activities in addition to lesson planning daily. • Mandatory attendance is required at all staff meetings throughout the summer. • Actively engage and interact with the children during lunch time periods. • Develop opportunities for positive interaction between campers and staff.

STAFF POLICIES AND PROCEDURES • Follow the procedural information outlined in the Nobel Learning Communities Camp Staff Manual and directives as given by the Camp Coordinator/Camp Director/School Principal. • Complete all records and forms timely, accurately and neatly, including daily sheets, field trip forms, requisition forms, etc. • Be knowledgeable of and comply with the school/camp child disciplinary process. • Maintains confidentiality regarding staff, children and families as well as SEG management and operations.

EXPERIENCE AND CREDENTIALS: • Minimum of 25 years old. • High school diploma or GED required; one or more years of college preferred • Prior experience working with children between the ages Pre-K through 8th Grade. • Must possess or be able to obtain certifications in CPR, First Aid, Medication Administration and Advanced Lifesaving. The ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations and apply appropriate policies and procedures. • Strong communication and organizational skills. • Genuine passion for and desire to work with children.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: • Frequent walking and standing (over 50%) and running (10-25%). • Frequent carrying and lifting 25 pounds or less (25-50%) and occasionally carrying and lifting 25-50 pounds (10- 25%). • Occasional use of repetitive or fine hand movements (10-25%). • Frequent working with arms above shoulder level and reaching (over 50%). • Frequent bending, squatting, stooping, reaching, kneeling, rising from the floor, twisting to interact with children (over 50%). • Regular overtime as required by position. • Occasional use of computer keyboard and mouse (10-25%). • Occasional climbing of stairs, playground equipment, ladders. May also work on platforms and need to be able to balance (10-25%). • Occasional operation of vehicles (5-10%). • Occasional pushing, pulling, or gripping of playground equipment or other equipment or toys (10-25%). • Frequent speaking and listening (over 75%) to staff, children and parents. Must be proficient in speaking, writing and reading English to include reading and comprehending policies, and procedures, writing incident reports, student progress reports, and curriculum in English. • Environmental exposures: heat, cold, dusts, noise, chemicals, moistness, dryness, blood-borne pathogens, germs; occasional use of gloves and safety glasses. • Employee is regularly required to hear and use clear vision with or without correction. •

TRAVEL: Must be able to travel by motor vehicle to required field trips, training and development.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. At times, the Camp Counselor may be required to work more than 40 hours a week.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS: You are expected to perform your position according to SEG safety policies and procedures, as well as, Federal, State, and Local regulations. All safety concerns and incidents are to be reported immediately to your direct superior.
