Chester County Intermediate Unit is Hiring a Shakespeare Festival Performer Near Downingtown, PA

Job DescriptionThe Chester County Intermediate Unit is seeking one or two Revelers (performers) to emcee our 2024 Chester County Shakespeare Festival on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The event will be hosted at Madeleine Wing Adler Theatre in West Chester, PA. This would be a contracted position with our company.
Reveler(s) The Revelers are responsible for keeping the performances on schedule and to keep the day flowing. Reveler(s) will introduce each performance and hang their banner on the podium. Reveler(s) will provide Elizabethan-era entertainment between school performances and during interludes, help judges with awards when necessary, and assist with handing out award ribbons.
BackgroundThe Chester County Shakespeare Festival, now in its 35th year, is an educational and entertaining event that brings together over 100 talented students from Chester County elementary, middle and high schools. Each school is given 20 minutes to perform and adapt a Shakespearean production, provided it stays within the main theme of the original play.
The study of Shakespeare in Chester County's classrooms is an integral part of the language arts curricula. Annually, the festival gives students an avenue to share their Shakespearean passion and to perform before an appreciative audience.
In the past, the audience was also entertained by a "Master and Mistress of Revelry," where professional actors present facts about Shakespeare, his works and life in Elizabethan England. Sir Robert and Lady Katherine opened the show, performed in between plays, introduced the schools and their play, and entertained the audience while the judge’s selected winners.
For reference, please view two past performances via YouTube from 2019 and 2023. Feel free to visit our website for more information.
