Tractor/Herbicide Operator 

JOB SUMMARY 

We are seeking a tractor operator to operate our mower and herbicide application equipment. Complete herbicide applications and operate tractors with PTO-driven 5’ and 7’ mowing decks throughout Cherrylake’s production areas to control weeds on premises. Operate tractor while spraying post- and pre-emergent herbicides to production areas with a boom and hand wand or with a hand wand on foot. Backpack/pump sprayers, shaker cans, and belly grinders may also be used. Pulling weeds as needed. Wear appropriate PPE at all times. Data entry and communication using mobile electronic devices..

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Operate tractors with a PTO-powered Hypro pump or mower decks like Bush Hogs.
  • Simultaneously apply herbicide with a spray boom and hand wand sprayer.
  • Safely operate tractors and equipment in regulation with Cherrylake’s procedures.
  • Perform general preventative maintenance of equipment.
  • Mowing and spraying in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Spray areas include, but are not limited to section borders, groundcovers, row and bed middles, in/around pots, and the perimeter of the property.
  • Always wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Follow chemical mixing formulas and procedures.
  • Follow regulations set by labels and the WPS when handling, mixing, and applying chemicals.
  • Submit completed works digitally for documentation and workflow recording.
  • Report potential plant health related issues seen on the farm. 
  • During periods of wind/rain or limited work the Member may apply fertilizer or perform hand drenches to crops. 
  • Hand pulling weeds as needed.
  • Communicate any questions, concerns, or incidents.
  • All other duties assigned

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • 1 month of prior experience working in a nursery or tree farm, in cultivation/harvesting and/or installation of commercial plant material, handling both manual and machine tasks associated with commodity production and harvest activities.
  • Prior experience with agricultural tractors, herbicide applications, and mowing is preferred.
  • Plant knowledge and identification is a plus.
  • Knowledge of agricultural equipment is a plus.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / HOURS OF WORK 

Physical Job Duties

  • Work can be repetitive and physically demanding, requiring frequent bending, lifting, and shoveling.

  • Regularly required to stand; walk; bend; crouch; squat; stoop or kneel.

  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.

Job Site Conditions

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather (heat or cold), and moving mechanical equipment.

 
Work Hours
  • Monday - Saturday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, additional hours may be required depending on organizational needs.
