Cherry Creek School District No. 5 is Hiring an ELS Summer Camp Instructor - Districtwide Near Englewood, CO

JOB SUMMARY: Work with the English Language Supports (ELS) summer school administrator to provide elementary and middle school newcomer students (new to English and new to the country) with an engaging week of interactive learning activities that accelerate social English skills and welcome students to the American school system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The subsequent duties outline the fundamental operations of the position and exemplify the nature of the tasks carried out. They do not encompass a comprehensive inventory of the obligations and responsibilities fulfilled in this role. The approximation of frequencies and time allocation percentages are flexible and subject to the requirements of the organization. Provide embedded English language instruction through thematic camp learning activities that will support newcomers in their social and instructional language.

2.

Serve as an advocate for newcomers and their families.

Facilitate engaging, interactive activities for newcomers that provide an introduction to the US school system and the CCSD system.

4.

Ensure students are engaged in learning, develop friendships and receive social-emotional support.

5.

Maintain safe conditions for students.

Communicate with parents, students, school staff and co- workers.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The minimum prerequisites of formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other criteria that a candidate must fulfill to be considered for a position. It is essential that certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, and trainings are fulfilled, valid, and not expired.
  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience working with multilingual learners from various backgrounds
  • Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license
  • CDE Culturally and Linguistically Diverse endorsement
  • Familiarity and working knowledge and application of both the Colorado English Language Proficiency (CELP - also known as WIDA standards) and Colorado Academic Standards (CAS)
  • Knowledge, experience, and willingness to foster and promote explicit language development
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: The physical demands, mental functions, cognitive capacities, and work environment factors required to perform a position's essential functions.   • Experience as an English Language Supports Specialist
  • Experience working in the public sector
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Racially conscious and culturally competent with the skill, will, capacity, and knowledge to commit to a culture of continuous improvement
Additional Information: The camps will be held at both Holly Ridge Primary school and the Institute of Science and Technology. July 22-26. 8AM-2PM are teacher hours (6 hours per day). 8-10 hours of paid planning before the camp starts.
