SUMMARY: Instruct students to develop proficient skills that will contribute to their reading abilities in coordination with current curriculum and within the framework of District and state content standards. Work with teachers to design methods of learning that are most appropriate for each child by addressing the specific needs of a particular child through intensive learning sessions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following tasks describe the basic functions of the job and represent the type of work performed. They do not constitute an exhaustive list of the duties and responsibilities performed on the job. The following frequencies and percentage of time spent are approximations only.

  • Develop, plan, prepare, and implement intervention strategies, including format, structure, and schedule, individualized programs of instruction for students, classroom materials and curriculum, and lesson plans and learning activities that meet the individual needs of students. [Daily, 30%]
  • Assist teachers with diagnosing intervention needs and coordinate lesson plans detailing methods and materials. Design assessment tasks that allow students to demonstrate understanding in a variety of ways and use the data to give meaningful feedback and modify instruction. [Daily, 15%]
  • Instruct students in large, small, and one-on-one situations. [Daily, 15%]
  • Administer, edit, proofread, and grade students’ assignments and assessments. [Daily, 10%]
  • Consult frequently with classroom teachers on students’ progress. Communicate students’ progress and needs with parents/guardians and other staff as needed. [Daily, 5%]
  • Create a classroom environment which maximizes instructional opportunity, supervise the behavior and well-being of students in the classroom and all educational settings, and administer discipline when appropriate. [Daily, 5%]
  • Monitor student growth and progress, adapt support as needed, and maintain documentation pertinent to academic, social, and emotional progress and needs of students. [Daily, 5%]
  • Collaborate with teachers, support personnel, administrators, and colleagues to enhance instruction and improve student outcomes. [Daily, 5%]
  • Participate in department, team, building, and District meetings and discussions; student and/or family conferences; social, cultural, interscholastic, and extracurricular activities; and professional growth opportunities. [Daily, 5%]
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. [Daily, 5%]

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:The minimum amounts of formal education, professional work experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities that must be met for a candidate to be considered for a position

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Student teaching/practicum/internship experience that meets or exceeds Colorado's requirements
  • Basic knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Basic classroom management and planning skills
  • Basic organizational skills
  • Intermediate verbal and written communication and interpersonal relations skills
  • Ability to align curriculum and assessments with state content standards
  • Ability to support programs designed to increase student achievement
  • Ability to assume leadership in the development and communication of programs and curriculum
  • Ability and desire to work as a team member
  • Ability to actively participate in a Professional Learning Community
  • Ability to understand, appreciate, and make accommodations for student diversity
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholder groups

  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required for hire

MINIMUM CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSESThe minimum certifications and licenses that must be met, valid, and unexpired for a candidate to be considered for a position

  • Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license
  • Appropriate endorsements or equivalent in the content field

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Any job-related formal education, professional work experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, certifications, licenses, and other criteria that are inessential and in addition to the minimum qualifications, certifications, and licenses

  • Formal education beyond a Bachelor’s degree
  • Three (3) years of successful teaching experience
  • Experience advising school clubs/co-curricular activities
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Racially conscious and culturally competent with the skill, will, capacity, and knowledge to commit to a culture of continuous improvement
