AGENCY: CHEROKEE SHERIFF'S OFFICE

LOCATION: 498 CHATTIN DRIVE CANTON, GA 30115

TITLE: DEPUTY SHERIFF

DIVISION: ADULT DETENTION CENTER

POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision by the shift supervisor, a person in this position ensures security and protects property of the facility, completes the admission process of inmates, prevents escapes, controls behavior of inmates, and protects inmates from each other. The incumbent must be diligent in maintaining an inmate count, overseeing the dispensing of medication, and be able to take personal property of inmates. The incumbent must also adhere to definite procedures established by the department to ensure that the inmates' constitutional rights are observed. A person in this position does not supervise other employees but may be tasked with inmate transport or other responsibilities of a state certified peace officer.

Minimum Requirements

Applicant must:

  • Be 18 years of age.
  • Be a US Citizen for Deputy/Detention Officer
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License
  • If previous military experience, discharge must not reflect Dishonorably Discharged
  • Not have been convicted of, pled guilty or pled Nolo to a felony or act of Family Violence.
  • Not have been convicted of, pled guilty or pled Nolo to a DUI within the last 5 years.
  • No marijuana usage within the last 2 years.
  • No illegal drug usage within the last 5 years.
  • Never sold illegal scheduled drugs for profit or personal gain.
  • Never illegally distributed any illegal schedule drug for profit or personal gain.
  • Never manufactured, cultivated, or grew any illegal scheduled drug.
  • Must not have any tattoos or intentional scaring on the hands*, ears, head, face, or neck area.

*If applicant has a finger tattoo in order to be permissible it must be able to be covered by one agency approved ring

  • * Must not have stretching or gauging of the earlobes or any other visible body part.
