General Biologist II

This position requires an active USAccess clearance or the ability to obtain a USAccess clearance to be considered.

The General Biologist II position involves conducting field and laboratory research in coastal forested wetland sites and river basins across multiple states. Responsibilities include assisting in data collection, conducting experiments, analyzing samples, and supporting senior scientists in data analysis and reporting.

Compensation & Benefits:

Pay commensurate with experience.

General Biologist II Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist in sampling coastal forested wetland sites in Louisiana at least 3 times per year, including collecting dendrometer band growth data and salinity data.
    • Assist in the establishment and re-measurement of study sites along lower river basins.
    • Assist with soil C stock assessments on various forested wetland study sites..
    • Conduct vegetation surveys.
    • Set up, monitor, and maintain field and greenhouse experiments.
    • Periodically use infrared gas analyzers and sapflow field equipment.
    • Collect and measure soil, water, and vegetation samples for laboratory processing.
    • Perform routine maintenance, operate, and calibrate field and data collecting equipment.
    • Safely operate hand and power tools and drive government-owned vehicles.
    • Coordinate field logistics with other team members.
    • Identify, sort, and process vegetation biomass samples.
    • Perform routine vegetation and soil analyses in the laboratory.
    • Support senior scientists in analyzing study results and writing methods summaries.
    • Keep detailed lab logs and records of all tasks.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

General Biologist II Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • BA/BS (or higher) degree in biological sciences, ecology, conservation science, or a related field.* 3 years of related experience.* Experience with federal projects preferred.* Ability to organize and gather project data, conduct analysis, prepare reports, and provide recommendations without assistance.* Good organizational skills and excellent communication skills both oral and written.* Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).* Ability to obtain and maintain a UAccess Clearance.* Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
