Position Overview: The CCHS LVT sets the tone for the Medical Department and its interactions with staff, volunteers, and the community. The LVT oversees in-house surgeries and those for the public affordable clinic, community cat programs, and rescue groups, as well as providing quality medical care for the CCHS animals. The LVT will work as a team with the Behavior, Foster, Animal Care, and Adoption departments and department leads.
Key Responsibilities: The CCHS LVT inducts anesthesia, performs surgical prep, assists the veterinarians during surgery, and monitors the recovery of the animals who come through the spay/neuter clinic. The LVT performs health evaluations on shelter animals, maintains all medical records, and humanely euthanizes shelter and owned animals when necessary. The LVT will proactively look to implement improved protocols and maintain accurate and complete records.
QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIRED
· Associate’s Degree – Animal Health Technician (or higher)
· Current New York State Licensed Veterinary Technician status (Endorsement/limited permit through the State of New York also considered)
· Ability to be waiting to be engaged (as needed) evenings and weekends.
· Experience handling animals, both small and large
· Ability to obtain and maintain euthanasia certification
· Computer literacy
· Strong communication skills including the ability to speak clearly and listen effectively
· Ability to use good judgment in decision-making and solution-finding
· Remain professional and composed during difficult situations and discussions
· Know when to ask for guidance and assistance
· Treat all individuals with dignity and respect
· Follow defined protocols, policies, and procedures
· Follow safety measures to keep animals and individuals out of harm’s way at all times
· The consistent use of kindness, patience, and good will in working with our community
· Valid driver’s license
· Other responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS, PREFERRED
· Customer service experience
· Veterinarian Office Management
· Fear Free training and/or certification
