Chattanooga Preparatory School and Knoxville Preparatory School are all-boys public charter schools. Located close to downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee and Knoxville, Tennessee, we are positioned to provide a unique and impactful educational opportunity for the young men in our urban communities. Both cities have a boundless capacity for innovation, transformation, and economic prosperity. Unfortunately, these opportunities are not accessible for all members of our community, especially young men in urban core neighborhoods who are disproportionately impacted by poverty and educational inequity. It is our belief that students have gifts and talents that have been underserved. The families and young men of Chattanooga and Knoxville deserve greater opportunity and choice. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop in each student an understanding of the relationship of good body function and exercise to motivate each student to cultivate physical fitness, hygienic habits, and good social and emotional adjustment.

• Discover and develop talents of students in physical achievement, cardiovascular endurance, strength, skill, agility, poise.

• Coordination in individual, dual, and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student’s ability.

• Create a flexible middle school grade program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth.

• Plans, delivers, and assesses highly effective instruction aligned to national and state content standards.

• Enact the Knoxville Preparatory curriculum using evidence-based instructional practices tailored to students’ needs.

• Link lesson content to students’ prior background experience and/or real-world application of content.

• Communicates specific learning objectives to students.

• Captures student attention through active involvement.

• Administers student assessments and utilize data to identify areas of growth.

• Establishes clear content and language objectives for all lessons.

• Engages in continuous and sustained reflection on teaching practices and leadership behaviors, and adapt methods as needed to achieve school goals and performance objectives.

• Develops strong and sustained relationships with parents and members of the community by creating opportunities for involvement in students’ learning and development.

• Plans and collaborates with Knoxville Preparatory teachers and colleagues to reach shared goals and objectives.

• Fosters a motivating, supportive, learning-centered culture of excellence in a well-structured and managed classroom.

• Establishes and enforces rules of behavior and procedures for maintaining order in their classroom.

• Be innovative. Create exciting and engaging, inquiry-oriented learning activities.

CHARACTERISTICS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.

• Must have a current physical education certification through the State of Tennessee.

• A self-starter interested in working in a fast-paced, startup environment that requires flexible roles.

• A high level of personal integrity and professionalism.

• An unwavering commitment to high academic achievement and high expectations of all students.

• A capacity to motivate and lead in order to yield the highest academic performance possible from all students.

• A team-oriented approach and the ability to effectively communicate.

• Ability to give constructive feedback to facilitate student growth and academic achievement.

• Openness to receive feedback on issues that will facilitate growth and achievement of both students and faculty.

• Experience in working with middle grades students in urban environments.

• Evidence of advancing student achievement on state assessments required if candidate has prior teaching experience. If candidate does not have prior teaching experience, evidence of achieving ambitious goals required.
