If you have ever wondered what owning your own business is like, just ask an Employee Owner of Chatsworth Products (CPI). Better yet, become one! CPI has an immediate need for a Planner-Buyer in CPI’s Round Rock, Texas location.

As a CPI Planner-Buyer, you will perform various purchasing assignments of moderate complexity to procure equipment, parts and supplies necessary for the operation of the organization. Review proposals, negotiates prices and selects and recommends suppliers. Verify delivery dates, approve payment, maintain necessary records, resolve delivery and payment discrepancies. Develop solutions to problems of moderate scope and complexity. Make practical application of customary practices, procedures or techniques. Interface with suppliers, immediate supervisor and other personnel within the company. Work is reviewed in process for adherence to instructions, soundness of judgment and conclusions.

Will develop and deploy jobs within the ERP system, establish priorities, and revise the schedule according to customer needs, job specifications, and availability or capability of workers, parts, material, and equipment. In addition to exemplary technical skills and work experience, this position requires an entrepreneurial spirit, excellent interpersonal skills, a collaborative nature, and tactical agility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Independently analyzes demand, decides quantity to buy and negotiates purchases of inventory materials up to $25k per MRP.
  • Places PO’s for inventory and non-inventory items and follows up as required to assure an adequate material supply.
  • Assures an uninterrupted supply of material while maximizing inventory turns.
  • Resolves quality and delivery problems.
  • Sources new items with new and existing suppliers.
  • Identifies potential suppliers and qualify as required.
  • Identifies cost reduction opportunities through competitive bidding, negotiation, and design changes. Implements as feasible.
  • Evaluates suppliers and provides feedback to improve performance, especially in the areas of lead time, on-time delivery, delivered cost, terms, and quality.
  • Develops and maintains long-term relationships with key suppliers such that we are viewed as an excellent customer worthy of preferential treatment.
  • Develops a sense of part ownership that includes concern for inventory accuracy and inventory obsolescence and a feel for potential problems.
  • Conducts moderately difficult analytical studies and makes recommendations from them.
  • Communicates daily with the Production Supervisor and kitting team to ensure that the daily/weekly build sequence is in line with our customer requirements and operational goals.
  • Develops and executes production schedules, material plans, and inventory levels, production demand, plant capacity, and the master production schedule.
  • Completes what-if scenarios to aid in production planning and optimization of labor and materials.
  • Analyzes MRP data to ensure accuracy of job bills of material and operational routings as dictated by engineering. Communicate identified issues to Manufacturing Engineering and Document Control.
  • Understands MRP outputs as well as the parameters that impact the outputs.
  • Acts as the subject matter expert for planning and schedule related ERP parameters for assigned plant.
  • Coordinates and communicates production and shipping schedules to all involved parties on a daily basis.
  • Readjusts schedules according to production progress, change orders, shipping considerations, or other conditions.
  • Works with other Buyers/Planners to ensure material and components are available when needed, owns clear to build job review.
  • Tracks and reports progress against the production plan.
  • Process Improvement maintains working knowledge of latest developments in scheduling, production control, and supply chain.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Verifies basic numerical data for accuracy.
  • Performs basic calculations and apply results.
  • Coordinates production schedules with other manufacturing plants and contract manufactures as needed.
  • Continuous improvement of the planning and scheduling function.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Technical Competencies:

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent work experience.
  • One (1) year preferred of relevant supply chain experience or similar field.
  • Three (3) years relevant work experience using MRP applications.
  • Capable of managing company-wide key supplier relationships.
  • Capable of leading company-wide commodity responsibility.
  • Knowledge of production and procurement procedures.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local procurement laws and regulations.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office preferred.
  • NAPM/APICS certification preferred.

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequent sitting.
  • Lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Travel required.
  • Work in a manufacturing environment.
