Salary PLUS Transcripts
Join our team as a Court Reporter where you'll capture the essence of legal proceedings through precise verbatim recordings, ensuring clarity and accuracy in all transcripts. With a minimum qualification of a high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by court reporting training, along with a year of courtroom experience preferred, you'll maintain the integrity of legal records while upholding confidentiality and compliance with state regulations.

Examples of Duties

In this role you

  • Attend court and/or other legal proceedings and take down electronically and maintain verbatim recordings of court proceedings utilizing stenography or voice-to-text software and equipment.
  • Prepare for each days’ proceedings by setting up and testing all necessary equipment and verifying proper operation of all equipment prior to proceedings convening.
  • Designate speakers, ask participants to speak clearly, request clarifications as needed, read records back accurately and with clarity, note nonverbal gestures, parties, and counsel present, and the presence or absence of jury.
  • May work as part of a team of reporters under the direction of the Court Administrator.
  • Produce and certify as true and correct electronic verbatim transcripts, as required by the Judiciary, and as mandated by law, which includes initial production of transcript, proofreading, editing, and certifying for accuracy and completeness.
  • Electronically file said transcripts with the Clerk of Court, all while maintaining the confidentiality of official records.
  • Prepare and submit invoices for transcripts produced on a timely basis and maintain copies of invoices and payments.
  • Furnish copies of transcribed testimony to attorneys and interested parties, upon request and within strict time limitations.
  • Deposit back-up audio, as necessary, dockets, and court reporter generated notes monthly with their assigned supervisor for retention purposes in compliance with applicable laws.
  • Maintain court reporting equipment and supplies used in daily work assignments.
  • Ensure proper working order of equipment and notify immediate supervisor of any issues involving courtroom equipment.
  • Maintain filing systems of each case containing information pertinent to the case including tapes, exhibits, shorthand pad, and other relevant material.
  • Designate off-the-record discussions and reference exhibits introduced into the record.
  • Obtain correct spellings of names and legal or technical terminology.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED, trade school or equivalent level of education, supplemented by training from a recognized court reporting program; and
  • At least one (1) year of experience in the field of court reporting, with some experience in the courtroom environment preferred; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Qualifications:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid National or State of Georgia Court Reporter Certification.
  • Certification in good standing with the Board of Court Reporting for the Judicial Council of Georgia.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Notary Public certification in your County of residence.
  • Must be able to pass a security background check.

During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team.

In accordance with the Department of Transportation, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holders and those employed in safety-sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing.

Candidates with direct and relevant experience may receive an offer of up to 10% above the minimum salary that is posted, reflecting their exceptional qualifications.
