Primary Job Responsibilities:

The Counselor is responsible for providing a comprehensive school counseling program that is preventative in design, developmental in implementation, and supports students in the areas of academic achievement, college and career planning, and personal and social development. The counselor is responsible for monitoring student progress for their cohort. This position requires teaching/group counseling. The counselor is responsible for creating a classroom that provides real-world and life simulations to assist students with skills necessary for life, college, and career readiness. The counselor works with Administration and also serves as a consultant to educators, families, and community partners.

ALL CANDIDATES MUST HAVE A COUNSELING LICENSE.

* Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Uses data to develop and inform the school counseling program and evaluates the program's impact on the school's instructional goals.

* Collaborates on the development and management of the comprehensive school counseling program with school administrators.

* Communicates and share the goals of the comprehensive school counseling program with stakeholders including students, families, and community partners.

* Develops and maintains a written plan for the effective delivery of the school counseling programs based on student needs.

* Uses time to provide direct services to students through preventive and responsive services, including individual student planning, and uses the remaining time in development and management, system support, and accountability.

* Plans coordinates and provides classroom guidance sessions to meet the identified guidance and counseling competencies in the areas of academic achievement, career and educational development, and personal and social development to assist students in developing decision-making skills and identifying life goals.

* Assesses student needs and makes referrals to appropriate school resource personnel, social agencies, community agencies, and alternative programs.

* Intervenes during crisis situations and participates on the school crisis team.

* Prepares students for the transition to the next level: high school and post-high school activities/options.

* Collaborates with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational and career planning. Participates in school management teams in order to advocate for students' needs and provide guidance for school staff.

* Serves as liaison between the social services agencies (i.e., N.C. Child and Family Services Agency and personnel from the SCCS school system.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

* Counseling License

* Minimum of a Master's in Counseling Degree

* Effective at analyzing and using student data to drive instruction and support

* Experience with scheduling

* Effective Communication and Written Skills

* Hard-working
