Charlotte County Attorney's Office is committed to the organization's mission of delivering exceptional service. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Legal Assistant or Legal Office Assistant to join our team of dedicated professionals who strive to preserve and enrich our community's quality of life. The position will be responsible for supporting and assisting attorneys in service to various County departments.The position of Legal Assistant is specialized secretarial work of a confidential nature providing secretarial and administrative support to the legal staff in the County Attorney's office. Independent judgment and initiative are exercised in relieving attorneys of routine matters.
LEGAL ASSISTANT QUALIFICATIONS FOR CONSIDERATION
  • High school diploma supplemented by course work in legal studies or similar legal office practices
  • Four (4) years of relevant legal secretarial or legal office work experience.
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience.
The position of Legal Office Assistant is a specialized secretarial work of a confidential nature providing clerical support to the legal staff in the County Attorney’s office. Independent judgement and initiative are exercised in handling routine matters.
LEGAL OFFICE ASSISTANT QUALIFICATIONS FOR CONSIDERATION
  • High school diploma and course work in modern office management and practices.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in a legal office setting and demonstrated skill and knowledge of modern office practices. 
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience.
  • Thorough knowledge and proficiency with modern office practices, procedures, systems, and in the use of computer and office electronic equipment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software applications. 
  • Ability to make minor administrative decisions in accordance with office procedure, ordinances and departmental rules.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize data received from professional legal staff and other departments.
  • Ability to proofread, perform accurate computations and prepare/maintain accurate reports from records and other source data. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in working with high level, sensitive issues of significant importance.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to make recommendations and to use resourcefulness and tact in solving new problems.
  • Ability to prepare effective correspondence on routine matters and to perform routine functions without referral to supervisor.
  • Ability to ascertain priorities and meet deadlines and objectives.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to follow written and oral instructions.
Working Conditions:Work is primarily performed in an indoor, climate-controlled environment and is nearly absent from disagreeable elements (e.g., irate customers, extreme noise, heat, odors, heights and/or dust).
Risk/Safety Conditions:There is little or no risk related to physical and/or mental health and safety associated with this position.
Physical Activities:Walking, sitting, hearing, seeing up close, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
