Pay Range: Full-time seasonal, range from April-November, no benefits, starting hourly wage: $16.28

Position Summary:

Primary point of contact with the passengers aboard the vessel, whether selling fares or assisting in an emergency. Responsible for exchanging fare tickets for proper payment. Assists the captain in keeping the decks surface clean and clear of debris that may cause obstruction or injury to riders and passengers. Assist the captain by maintaining awareness of other vessels or obstacles in, or the path of, the ferry as it crosses the channel.

*This position requires work on nights, weekends, and some holidays.

Mandatory Requirements:

• Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
• Must be able to read, write, and speak in English as the primary means of work communication
• Must be able to work between the hours of 6am-11pm, 7 days a week. Hours and shifts will include both weekends and holidays between April and November
• Ability to move quickly between the ramps and the vessel, while twisting, turning, stepping, and other way maneuvering around closely parked vehicles, bikes, and pedestrians
• Ability to repeatedly reach in and out of pockets and aprons while making change and taking tickets from passengers
• Ability to stand and traverse around the deck between the passenger vehicles for most of the shift
• Ability to clearly see and hear captain/passengers as well as boats or obstacles approaching the vessel to avoid accident and/or injury (during times of light, dark, fog, and/or inclement weather)

Job Location/ Working Conditions:

This position is outdoors, on a steel vessel in the Straits of Ironton on Lake Charlevoix. Exposure to direct sun for several hours of the day, with intermittent access to the wheelhouse. Duties must be performed in inclement weather at times. Restrooms available while at docks, as there are no facilities available on the vessel. Occasional lifting and transferring of fifty pounds may be required.
