Job Description:

Perform clinical procedures such as:

• Issuance of medications routine and stat

• Order lab and X-ray studies, provide interpretation and follow-up as appropriate

• Perform EKG testing and preliminary interpretations

• Evaluate and intervene in daily medical needs as they arise

Participate in interdisciplinary care plan meetings as needed.

Maintain close working relationship with supervising physician for sharing information and maintaining direction in the medical care process.

Initiate appropriate evaluation and intervention for emergency situations. Administer emergency medications as needed.

Initiate and participate in consultations with other clinical services.

Participate in medical quality assurance activities.

Cooperate with Nursing QA Coordinator and Medical Records Director regarding documentation needs.

Participate in staff inservice education activities. Attend inservice programs as required.

Adhere to the bylaws of the medical staff and health care policies of the facility.

Perform weekly review of skin integrity issues in conjunction with the nursing department and make recommendations for treatment protocol.

Attend daily morning rounds and provide assistance and/or direction to nursing staff for medical areas of concern they may identify.

Has access to the entire Patient's medical records and to the SOS program in order to provide required care.

Perform duties according to the highest ethical and moral standards and in adherence with the facility's corporate compliance plan and all applicable governing laws. Adhere to the facility's confidentiality statement in accessing and safeguarding protected health information (PHI) of residents and employees, as necessary to perform job duties.

Delineation of duties between a Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant.

Nurse Practitioner:

• Protocols and practice agreements needed and must be sent to Albany for approval.
• Can write triplicate prescriptions.
• Charts need to be reviewed by MD every 3 months. No written law stating orders need to be co-signed.
• 30/60 day reviews have to alternate between MD/PA/NP.
• NP functions within established protocols working under his/her own license.

Physicians Assistant:

• No Protocols needed.
• Cannot rewrite triplicate prescriptions.
• Orders need to be signed by MD every 24 hours.
• 30/60 day reviews have to alternate between MD and PA.
• PA functions under the direction of the supevising physician.

Requirements:

• Full-time or Part-time Nurse Practitioner
• Must have current Nurse Practitioner License
• One year of long-term care experience preferred
• Would Care Certification preferred
