The Annual Giving Officer at Charles E. Smith Life Communities (CESLC) will be responsible for the annual giving program, including the annual Guardian Campaign, direct mail (USPS and digital), and other annual giving efforts as determined by the Vice President, Resource Development. The Annual Giving Officer is an integral member of the Resource Development Department, responsible for meeting key performance indicators (KPIs) related to total revenue collected and donor acquisition/retention. The successful candidate will work closely with lay leadership, external vendors, and members of the development team to create and implement strategies that engage donors and drive revenue, and will have their own prospect list for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
The Annual Giving Officer is supervised by the Vice President, Resource Development and collaborates closely with other associates. The Annual Giving Officer does not formally supervise another associate, but will coordinate the work of other associates on specific projects.

LOCATION
This position is based in the Development Department in the Dekelboum Building, located at 6101 Montrose Road in Rockville, MD 
SHIFTS & STATUS
This is a Full Time, Exempt position with Monday through Friday schedule.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serves as the primary associate responsible for the success of all annual fundraising efforts.
  • Develops and implements strategies to meet annual fundraising goals and KPIs.
  • Establishes goals for all annual fundraising efforts, develop campaign materials, and coordinate schedules and actions for leadership, volunteers , associates, and vendors, who are engaged in annual fundraising.
  • Collaborates closely with other resource development associates to create and implements fundraising strategies to cultivates, stewards, and engages donors that results in driving revenue to achieve annual fundraising goals.
  • Leads prospect identification discussions with internal and external stakeholders, assist with assigning prospects to solicitors and provide collateral material and other support to solicitors.
  • Actively engages in direct solicitation of donors and donor prospects.
    Develops and maintains positive relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, volunteers, lay leaders, vendors, and associates.
  • Analyzes the database to identify trends and opportunities for donor acquisition, retention, and increased giving; create and execute Moves Management (or similar process) strategies to cultivate prospects and steward current donors to ensure that CESLC remains a philanthropic priority; identifies donors who may become major donors and/or who are appropriate for a planned giving conversations.
  • Tracks and reports, using analytics, on progress of all annual fundraising efforts to include timelines and benchmarks.
  • Manages annual HY2P (youth philanthropy) program.
  • Manages annual fundraising budgets and monitor expenses to ensure they align with fundraising goals and priorities.
  • Prepares regular reports on annual fundraising progress and provides strategic recommendations to the Vice President, Resource Development and CESLC’s senior leadership.
  • Remains current on best practices in annual giving and fundraising and shares knowledge and insights with colleagues and other stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • At least five years of experience in annual giving or fundraising, preferably in a nonprofit organization.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing annual giving strategies that drive revenue and engagement.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with donor data analysis and reporting .
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with leadership, donors, donor prospects, volunteers, and associates.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to simultaneously manage multiple campaigns and priorities.
  • Knowledge of best practices in annual giving and fundraising, including emerging trends and technologies.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a positive and collaborative attitude.
  • Commitment to CESLC’s Core Principles (i.e., mission, vision, values and cultural belief statements).
  • Proficient in Raiser’s Edge (preferred), including the ability to provide updates and reports and conduct searches and queries, with a sound understanding of good practices in data maintenance.
  • A strong preference for working in a dynamic, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Exceptional ability to manage multiple projects while working with volunteers.
  • Adherence to the ethical and legal requirements of confidentiality in the handling of protected/sensitive information and situations.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, Power Point).
