Purpose

This position will build a biblical counseling ministry within Chapel Pointe. A healthy body of believers consists of authentic Christ-centered relationships. We are seeking an individual to oversee Chapel Pointe’s Counseling Ministry, working alongside the Marriage Ministry Pastor, in order to offer a place where healthy biblical relationships grow, and healing can occur not only in our church but also in our community.

Job Responsibilities:

• Develop, implement, and provide ongoing evaluation for Chapel Pointe’s counseling strategy at all campuses.
• Develop and equip a team of lay counselors in the church to provide biblical counseling for individuals seeking counseling support.
• Develop a network of qualified Christian Counseling resources in West Michigan to make appropriate referrals.
• Spend at most 25% of time in counseling individuals 1-1. A primary use of counseling sessions should be used to provide opportunities to train others.
• Develop and equip leaders for support groups (example: Grief Share, Divorce Share, Recovery Support, etc.)
• Partner with the family ministry team in recommending counseling and resources for parents.
• Provide counseling resources for training and information to Small Group Leaders, Deacons, and Elders.

• Chapel Pointe becomes a beacon of hope at all of its locations for people seeking counseling in a time of crisis.
• Chapel Pointe develops a culture of providing biblical counsel from the lay level all the way through pastoral leadership.
• Chapel Pointe’s counseling ministry grows to the point where it is capable of handling 90% of counseling referrals internally (within five years).

Qualifications

• Master of Divinity or equivalent degree in biblical counseling, or certificates from approved Biblical education providers (Examples: CCEF, ABC)
• Minimum 5 years of pastoral or counseling experience with substantial recent ministry history
• Meets the biblical qualifications of pastor/elder in 1 Timothy 3, Titus 1 and 1 Peter 5
• Effective communicator, motivator, and team builder
• Strategic with the development and utilization of processes to scale and multiply the ministry
• Compassionate to people and has a good reputation inside and outside the church
