Channel Fish is Hiring a Sustainability Coordinator Near Boston, MA

Position Summary: The Sustainability Coordinator will play a pivotal role in driving and promoting sustainable practices across the organization. This position will play a crucial role in developing and implementing sustainability initiatives to reduce our environmental impact, promote responsible practices, and ensure the long-term health of resources. The Sustainability Coordinator will work closely with various departments within the organization to develop and implement sustainable initiatives, monitor progress, and report on the effectiveness of sustainability programs. Additionally, they will be responsible for educating and collaborating with various teams across the organization and ensuring compliance with sustainability protocols while effectively conveying customer sourcing requirements.

This position requires a deep understanding of the seafood industry, strong analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate is assertive, well-organized, and creative, capable of building sustainable systems from the ground up.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Fish-Specific Sustainability Responsibilities

· Conduct assessments and audits of fishing practices, supply chain processes, and environmental impacts to identify areas for improvement and sustainability enhancements.

· Conduct life cycle analysis (LCA) studies to assess the environmental impact of products, processes, or practices throughout their entire life cycle, from raw material extraction to end-of-life disposal and use the findings to inform sustainable decision-making and improvements.

· Collaborate with fisheries, suppliers, and partners to promote sustainable fishing practices, reduce bycatch, and minimize environmental impacts.

· Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to sustainable seafood sourcing, production, and distribution.

· Research, recommend and educate Channel Fish Management on sustainable seafood certifications, labeling, and traceability systems to ensure transparency and accountability.

General Sustainability Responsibilities

· Spearhead the development of a comprehensive sustainability program tailored to the company's complex supply chain and demanding customer standards. This will require the development of strong internal and external relationships.

· Conduct environmental assessments and audits to identify areas for improvement and efficiency. Monitor and analyze energy, water, waste, and carbon emissions data to track the organization's environmental performance.

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainability practices into daily operations.

· Research and recommend sustainable materials, technologies, and practices to enhance environmental performance.

· Coordinate with external partners, suppliers, and stakeholders to promote sustainability throughout the supply chain.

· Educate and train employees on sustainability best practices.

· Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices in sustainability.

· Prepare and present sustainability reports and communications to internal and external stakeholders.

· Drive continuous improvement in sustainability performance through data analysis and feedback mechanisms.

· Act as an advocate for sustainability, raising awareness and promoting sustainable practices both internally and externally.

· Represent the company at industry conferences and events, educating colleagues, customers, and suppliers on the latest developments.

· Select and pursue sustainability certifications, including building relationships with certifying organizations, overseeing selection, and ensuring successful audits. Additionally, develop necessary paperwork and process flows to ensure compliance with sustainability protocols.

· Efficiently manage and organize all relevant paperwork, certifications, and documentation.

· Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:

· Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field and/or equivalent experience.

· Minimum of three years of experience in sustainability management, seafood industry, or related roles preferred.

· Experience with seafood supply chain management, traceability, and regulatory compliance.

· Strong understanding of seafood sustainability principles, certifications, and best practices.

· Excellent project management, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

· Proficiency in sustainability reporting, data analysis, and technology tools.

· Passion for marine conservation, sustainable fishing, and environmental stewardship.

· Assertive, well-organized, and creative individual capable of building sustainability systems from the ground up.

· Ability to effectively communicate customer sourcing requirements to purchasing and production teams.

Travel and Schedule Requirements

· Ability to travel locally and internationally on short notice to attend industry conferences and events.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
