Education and Experience

The Optometrist must be certified to practice medicine in any state in the United States or territory.

Providing verification of credentials (education, current licensor/status competency, continuing medical education), and proof of malpractice insurance, as required by the Joint Commission. He/She must have at least bone or more years of experience. Background clearance packets submitted by potential contractor employees shall be accompanied by a certified or photostatic copy of their current license.

Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified, in accordance with the American Heart Association Basic Life Support. The contractor must possess and submit with their quotation, evidentiary documentation of their graduation from an accredited school. In the case of a company, the qualified individual selected to perform these services on behalf of the contractor must be identified at the time the quotation is submitted.

Description of Duties

  • Provide direct patient care services in accordance with legal, ethical, and institutional standards through the evaluation of patients and therapeutic treatment as ordered by Health Services clinical staff
  • Perform duties within the scope of the current licensure
  • Provide Optometry services which conform to community standards and all local, state and Federal laws and regulations applicable to the delivery of health care to members of the general public.
  • Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services for the inmate
  • Take medical histories, examine patients, and order and interpret laboratory tests and x-rays
  • Maintain accurate logs of all reports in accordance with Bureau of Prisons and JACHO policy Screen laboratory tests/results for normal/abnormal lad values and notify the physician or physicians
  • Ensure all tools, sharps and equipment are secured, accounted for, stored and disposed of according to institutional and national policy
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality
  • Adhere to infection control policies and procedures Make a diagnosis, provide treatment plans and prescribe medications
  • Utilize the Bureau of Prisons’ Electronic Medical Record to document the eye exam, recommend clinically necessary outside consultation, instruct and counsel, and order or carry out therapy
  • Emergency consultation to be performed by the contractor in instances where deemed necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with the staff physician(s) and consulting physician(s) in planning, instituting, evaluating and revising program plans
  • Assists in determining conditions, resources and policies essential to delivery of the health care services
  • Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional, or mental problems

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $60.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
