Job Description

Position Summary: The Lactation Support Specialist provides breastfeeding counseling services within their scope of practice; supports IBCLCs. Performs administrative and lactation support functions for Champions for Children's ABC Program including following up on participants, data entry, monitoring inventory, and other administrative functions. The position reports to the Program Manager.

Wage rate: $22.00 per hour. Schedule: 15 hour per week

Location: 3108 W. Azeele St, Tampa, FL 33609 and other Baby Café locations in Hillsborough County.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Triages and screens lactating participants within scope of practice. Schedules participants for consultations with IBCLCs.
  2. Provides breastfeeding counseling at all Baby Café and/or ABC Program locations, by phone, and over video conferencing as needed, helping at busy Baby Cafés and covering for other ABC staff when IBCLCs are out. Location(s) and service delivery method(s) may change based on scheduling/community needs.
  3. Provides appropriate client follow up and referrals.
  4. Assists the Program Manager in the management of loaner and/or rental electric breast pumps as directed.
  5. Completes provider communications, charting, and documentation and provides client data and reporting requirements accurately and in a timely manner.
  6. Acts as back-up instructor of ABC Program prenatal classes when assigned instructors are out.
  7. Maintains inventory of program supplies and equipment in accordance with agency, grant, and Program Manager requirements.
  8. Oversees and performs data entry in various software applications related to prenatal classes, participant activities, and administrative functions.
  9. Answers phones and emails, providing information and assistance.
  10. Receives and processes incoming and outgoing mail, deliveries, and faxes.
  11. Assists and attends community outreach activities.
  12. Attends staff meetings, on-going in-service training, and supervision as required.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS :

  1. Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent, Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  2. Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) certification. An equivalent lactation certification, such as a Certified Lactation Specialist (CLS), which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties will be considered.
  3. Bilingual in English/Spanish an advantage but not required.
  4. Adhere to Baby Café standards of care and adhere to the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice (ALPP) Code of Ethics for CLCs, ALPP Documentation Guidelines for CLCs, and the ALPP Scope of Practice for CLCs.
  5. Professional, self-directed, follow-through on projects and prompt responsiveness to internal and external stakeholders and able to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  6. Strong oral and written communication skills (in English).
  7. Excellent computer skills with proficiency in typing and Microsoft Office Suite, MS 365, SharePoint.
  8. Good interpersonal skills, team-oriented, customer service focused enjoys working with others.
  9. Detail oriented, with excellent organization skills required.
  10. Light physical demands: Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. Ability to walk, stand, climb stairs, kneel, bend, reach, and manipulate objects; lift and move materials up to 10 pounds on a regular basis; infrequently require to lift or move materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
  11. Some travel in the communities served; must have a reliable car, active auto insurance, and valid Florida driver’s license.
  12. Must be sensitive to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the population that Champions for Children serves.
  13. Must be able to successfully complete a criminal background check, motor vehicle records check and drug screening.
