Job Title: Compactor Technician
Department: Maintenance
Reports To: Maintenance Manager
Summary: The Compactor Technician performs repairs, maintenance, and installation of compactors, balers, and other stationary equipment. The Compactor Technician performs work on hydraulics, basic electrical operations, and welding fabrication. Typical job duties include operating service truck, forklift, and other equipment to facilitate, repair and install work on stationary equipment. Further job duties include, but are not limited to, container work, truck body repairs, picking up parts and supplies and completing all required paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists with customer visits to respond to service concerns. Investigates issues, determining root cause and required follow-up.
  • Performs inspections, conducts diagnostic tests, preventative maintenance, and repairs on various types of compactors, balers, and other stationary equipment.
  • Reads electrical schematics for control systems. Diagnoses and repairs electrical problems on equipment using both single and three phase AC/DC voltage, including working with high-voltage electricity.
  • Reads hydraulic schematics. Diagnoses and repairs hydraulic issues on equipment.
  • Maintains knowledge of proper installation of compactors and other types of stationary equipment. Performs or assists with installations as scheduled and meets relevant deadlines.
  • Performs welding and fabrication work as needed.
  • Ensures and maintains efficiencies so that all scheduled jobs can be handled each day.
  • Completes paperwork and/or data entry associated with repairing relevant equipment in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area in compliance with Company and OSHA standards, performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures. Wears PPE as required for the position.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to members of the leadership team, coworkers, and drivers in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Ability to identify and effectively communicate issues to supervisor when assignments or tasks cannot be performed as instructed or planned.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and behavior, demonstrates a feeling of pride in work, adheres to work schedule, and strives to achieve all goals.
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and/or overtime as required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Equipment maintenance and repair experience.
  • Welding and/or fabrication skills and/or experience.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must successfully complete all applicable pre-employment screening.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CDL License.
  • Industry experience with waste and recycling vehicles and equipment.
  • English/Spanish bilingual.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate, understand, and respond to questions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk, bend, reach, pull, or listen. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 50 lbs. or more using safe lifting techniques. Will be exposed to a physical environment which involves dirt, dust, odors, noise, weather extremes, etc. most of the workday. Normal setting for this job is both indoors and outdoors.
