Salary Range: $15.60 - $19.50 Hourly

Description

Summary 

The Building Service Worker does routine custodial work to clean and maintain the assigned facility and grounds while performing other specialized duties as assigned. 


Qualifications 

  • Minimum 18 years of age. 
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a janitorial or housekeeping role. 
  • Strong attention to detail. 
  • Ability to understand and work from written and oral instructions. 
  • Basic computer and technology skills including but not limited to email, and time management software. 
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and sanitation techniques. 
  • Ability to operate power equipment and hand tools in a safe and efficient manner. 
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment by established procedures. 
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license with clean driving record. 

Supervision 

The Building Service Worker reports to the Building Service Worker Supervisor. 


Classification 

  • Non-Exempt, hourly 
  • Full-time 

Essential Functions 

  • Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of oneself, the public, fellow employees. 
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and discretion in all interactions, including maintaining strict confidentiality regarding staff information, communications from supervisors, and conversations with parents or patrons. Uphold the Park District’s policies and standards for data privacy and confidentiality at all times. 
  • Keep the assigned building clean, including restrooms, offices, recreation areas, floor care, windows, garbage and recyclables removal, and dusting. 
  • Perform additional custodial work as assigned. 
  • Use vehicles, tools, chemicals, and equipment safely, efficiently, and responsibly. 
  • Complete standardized building inspections on a monthly basis. 
  • Maintain custodial equipment according to Park District safety procedures in a safe and efficient working order. 
  • Assist snow removal crews in ensuring the removal of snow and ice from front walkways. 
  • May order supplies following Park District purchasing procedures. 
  • Report condition issues for facility and equipment to the supervisor promptly. 
  • Immediately inform the supervisor of any vandalism. 
  • Ensure Park District rules and regulations are followed by patrons and report violations immediately to the supervisor. 
  • Report any issues with contract cleaners to the supervisor. 
  • Ensure the proper use and availability of personal protection equipment (PPEs). 
  • Ensure chemical safety data sheets (SDS) are updated and available to all staff. 
  • Perform duties outside during varied seasonal conditions. 
  • Be available to work additional hours upon request.
  • Remove litter within fifty feet of the building. May also be required to remove trash and replace liners from outdoor trash receptacles at some facilities. 
  • Comply with equal opportunity and harassment laws, policies, and procedures. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physiological Considerations 

The activities required to fulfill this position's duties are significantly physical. These activities may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Laying:
    • Crawl space and attic work and installing minor reports to building mechanics. 
  • Climbing:
    • Clean windows, this may include skylights and two-story panes, and/or removing cobwebs from ceilings 
  • Standing:
    • Sweeping, floor buffing, vacuuming, mopping, painting, carpentry, electrical and plumbing work, shoveling snow, all may be for extended periods of time, many other duties.
  • Sitting:
    • While operating equipment and vehicles may be over rough terrain for extended periods of time. 
  • Lifting:
    • Lift up to 60 pounds unassisted. 
    • Lift more than 60 pounds with mechanical or human assistance 
  • Equipment Operations:
    • Floor buffers, carpet cleaners, and a wide variety of small power hand tools 

The above examples of activities and work are not all-inclusive but are intended as an indication of the level and type of endeavors necessary to fulfill the duties of this position. 


Environmental Considerations 

  • Occasional work may be in outside weather conditions including extremes of heat, cold, wet, and dry.
  • Any one of these endeavors may occur for an entire workday or for several workdays in a row.
  • This role may involve exposure to harmful chemicals; adherence to rigorous safety protocols is essential to minimize potential risks and ensure a secure work environment.
