Champaign Park District is Hiring a Bus Driver Near Champaign, IL

Job Details

Job Location: Operations Facility - Champaign, IL
Position Type: Part Time 2
Salary Range: $21.50 - $31.50 Hourly

Description

SUMMARY

The Bus Driver is responsible for transporting Champaign Park District participants to locations throughout the community


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • Valid State of Illinois CDL Drivers license with Class B and passenger endorsement.
  • Good driving history.
  • Proficiency in manual shift transmission.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Park District staff and the general public.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain a tight schedule.
  • Willing to attend bloodborne pathogens training during the probationary period.
  • Ability to take charge of elementary-age participants on the bus.
  • POSITIVE CAN DO TEAM ATTITUDE

SUPERVISION

The Bus Driver is responsible to the Programs Manager


TRAINING CAN BE OBTAINED THROUGH THE CHAMPAIGN PARK DISTRICT

  • Bloodborne pathogen training
  • Obtain a current Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Certification
  • Obtain a current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification from an accredited agency
  • Facility training

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of the public, fellow employees, and themselves
  • Provide safe and dependable transportation for all program participants and staff.
  • Follow the daily schedule in a timely manner.
  • Inform supervisor of unrealistic departure and arrival times.
  • Take appropriate measures to rectify undesirable participant behaviors.
  • Communicate to your supervisor any conflict or issues that arise.
  • Represent the District in a positive manner when communicating with the public.
  • Follow all rules of the road set by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
  • Inform Operations Department staff of any technical difficulties with the bus.
  • Keep the bus clean and presentable at all times.
  • Inform supervisor of any technical difficulties with the bus.
  • Maintain clear records of field trips and daily schedules.
  • Report all maintenance and supply needs to the supervisor.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist program staff with participants as needed.
  • Communicate information to the police department as needed.

PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • May have to drive under loud conditions created by groups of children.
  • Follow a schedule in a timely manner.

PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • Prolonged hours of sitting.
  • Non-air-conditioned bus.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • May be exposed to summer weather conditions including rain, heat and humidity.

COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS

  • Should be safety conscious at all times.
  • Must be able to work well with people, resolve problems fairly and with judgment in keeping with the mission of the district.
  • Must be able to respond quickly and accurately in emergency situations.
