Position Description
Under direction, creates, develops, and integrates instructional strategic planning and workflows for Digital media and Photography classroom technology; provides technical guidance, direction, and support to the departments, students, faculty, and staff; provides leadership and direction in creating solutions for classroom technology issues; coordinates and facilitates activities and operations of the digital classrooms and lab resources.
Responsibilities
Positions in this classification are assigned some combination of the following duties:
Provide technical guidance, direction, and support to faculty and students as well as research and recommend solutions for classroom technology issues.
Develop and implement methods of effectively managing student assignment print workflows, materials and outcomes, including training instructors and students, and developing facility resources.
Work closely with faculty on strategizing technology needs.
Assist in the managing of department budgets and expenditures; establish and maintain vendor relationships.
Create and develop facility resources for instructional needs; develop and integrate new areas of technology into instructional facilities with an emphasis on student success.
Assist students in understanding design principles and art issues relevant to completing successful student projects.
Maintain, calibrate, and repair a wide variety of photographic film and print processing equipment, laboratory equipment, and facilities as needed.
Determine, install, and configure hardware and software as needed for instruction.
Research and purchase chemicals appropriate for film/chemical photography classes; establish, direct, and maintain orderly storage and inventory systems for materials and equipment, monitor equipment issues; establish processes to ensure equipment safety and security.
Determine, create, and implement digital workflows appropriate to instructional needs and student success; coordinate and maintain classroom lab access for program students; conduct tours of facilities.
Maintain and support a virtual and in-person laboratory environment.
Administer and assist personnel in the use of on-line and tutorial resources.
Maintain field currency in technologies, including Digital Media and Photography.
Coordinate staff to install on- and off-campus student exhibitions; coordinate referral of student photographers for on- and off-campus groups and individuals.
Recommend, develop, and implement departmental facility policies, procedures, and processes.
Train, recruit, and schedule a team of short-term workers, apprentices, and student employees.
Provide technical expertise and advice to the School of Visual and Performing Arts; perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Clear evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or an Associate's degree and two (2) years of experience working in a college setting; or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position.
Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to develop effective work methods and meet short timelines in a high-pressure environment.
Knowledge of:
Principles, terminology, and methodology of Adobe Suite applications and other applicable image-related applications.
Current principles and practices of art, design, photography, and media.
Chemical film photographic processes, 35mm, medium and large format cameras and film.
Studio and location lighting equipment and techniques; integration and configuration of digital cameras, high definition video, hardware, software, scanners, printers, peripherals, printing networks, profiles and calibrations used in creating accurate digital workflows for still and digital video output.
General operating and safety rules and procedures for working with hazardous chemicals and high voltage electrical equipment applicable to lighting equipment.
Budgeting for instructional needs.
Computer applications, including personal computer database management software, spreadsheets, and word processing applications.
Higher education organization, operations, and policies.
Ability to:
Develop and provide technology training procedures and classroom workflow instruction for faculty, contract staff, and hourly staff.
Produce or direct the production of chemical and digital photographic films and prints.
Construct and maintain digital workflows, including appropriate applications settings, monitor profiling and calibration, raster image processing, software, media recording software and printing networks.
Troubleshoot and resolve technological workflow issues.
Develop, construct, and maintain inventory systems.
Organize work flow and direct the work of others.
Provide leadership and team management to hourly and contract employees.
Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, students, vendors, and others contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
Plan and organize work to be able to effectively meet timelines; work independently and confidentially.
Configure software to appropriate hardware.
Perform basic diagnostic checks and take appropriate corrective action.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in a community college setting.
A background in both the technical and fine art aspects of art, photography, and digital media is highly desirable.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Working hours: Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 6:00pm. Hours may vary according to the assignment.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a full-time, 12-month, classified bargaining unit position. Starting date: as soon as possible. Range 33 of the CSEA Salary Schedule, with a starting salary of Step A, $6,758. Excellent benefit package.
Being able and ready to work in-person with Chaffey students, Chaffey employees, or other members of the Chaffey community/Chaffey partners/Chaffey contractors is an essential function of this job.
