CGC Group Inc. is Hiring an Utility Billing/ Meter Technician Near Coppell, TX

The Utility Billing/ Meter Tech is responsible for ensuring the efficient delivery of water utility services to City residents. This role involves a wide range of tasks that require physical strength and stamina, as well as a commitment to excellent customer service. Specific tasks related to community engagement, fieldwork and troubleshooting, inspection and maintenance, record keeping, and billing.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Models Coppell’s Culture and Core Competencies.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and experience by promptly responding to inquiries and concerns from residents and businesses.
  • Processing of customer applications, payments, and calls.
  • Record water meter readings, even in challenging conditions.
  • Process work orders in the field, visit water meters, and troubleshoot issues related to meter readings and customer water usage.
  • Address notifications regarding water service problems, including leak detection/concerns, and meter repair.
  • Determine the source of service problems, distinguishing between issues stemming from City infrastructure, residential properties, or commercial entities.
  • Conduct scheduled inspections of water utilities and meter service equipment.
  • Ensure the proper maintenance of utility vehicles, utilities, and equipment, keeping them in good working condition.
  • Complete postings on payments, billings, or adjustments to customer accounts.
  • Generate, process, and reconcile customer accounts including monthly billing and biweekly cutoffs both in the system and physically go to the address to cut off the water.
  • Maintain appropriate records and related documentation pursuant to applicable policy.
  • Track and process leak detection/concerns.
  • Undertake additional tasks as requested or required to contribute to the overall effectiveness of the Strategic Financial Engagement Department.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Valid State of Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record
  • 1-2 Years of Technical Experience
    1. Including fieldwork, meter reading, leak detection/prevention, and/or construction.
  • 1-2 Years of Customer Service Experience

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Working knowledge of service aspects related to municipal water delivery and control devices.
  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize construction techniques and an understanding of how to safely operate a wide variety of maintenance and installation equipment, hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of Tyler MUNIS Products is preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with coworkers and members of the public, in a cordial and professional manner, using the English language verbally in person, email, customer portal, and phone, on a daily basis is essential.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and comply with all relevant or applicable city or state procedures or policies.
  • Ability to utilize a personal computer with word processing software.
  • Ability to prepare written reports and memos related to record-keeping requirements and maintain adequate inventory of equipment and material.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision, and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, requiring continually changing tasks outdoors in a noisy and distracting environment subject to a variety of environmental conditions.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, all of which must be performed with a high degree of concern for personal safety and the safety of coworkers, citizens, and other individuals.

Working Conditions:

Essential job functions are completed in an office setting, as well as in a field environment. Must be able to safely operate City vehicles and equipment and perform a variety of physically demanding tasks at noisy, dusty, muddy, or damp work sites. Work areas may also expose employees to bees, snakes, chiggers, pollen, poison ivy, and other similar hazards. This employee must repeatedly set up safe work zones in compliance with established guidelines and is often exposed to traffic hazards, temperature extremes, and other hazards including electrical shock, and airborne contaminants such as fuels, paints, and other chemical substances or vapors. Physical tasks often include walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, crawling, stooping, lifting, and carrying items weighing up to 100 pounds. 

Physical Requirements:

This position requires a high level of physical activity, including: occasionally lifting and carrying various objects and totes up to 20 pounds for a distance of up to 200 feet; lifting a sump pump weighing up to 100 pounds from a height of about 48 inches for a distance of 20 feet twice monthly; occasionally pulling and dragging objects with a long-handled pick or key exerting a force of up to 75 pounds; employing various dynamic and static postures such as standing, walking, forward reaching, handling (gripping and grasping), fingering, talking, hearing, using near and far acuity, depth and color perception, peripheral vision, sitting, climbing up and down a ladder and steps, bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, overhead reaching, crawling and smelling. 

The salary range for this role is $41,600- $45,760 annually. This is a temp to hire role, the goal is to convert over to the company after the probationary. Success is in your hands, it’s based-on performance. Benefits are offered after conversion.
