Lab Technician I - Diluent

Location: Anniston, AL

Job Summary and Purpose:

The Lab Technician I position will participate in working directly with all vaccine production activities with emphasis on the production of sterile diluents. This position will assist in processes using lab equipment such as autoclaves, batching tanks, filling, sealing and labeling machines as well as shipping and receiving. This position will ensure task and supporting documentation is completed accurately and concurrently; as well as entering appropriate data into JDE data base.

Responsibilities and Key Duties:

  • Diluent Production - batch diluents; fill and seal I.V. bags
  • Prepare materials for diluents; assemble boxes, label and package I.V. bags for shipping
  • Operate general production equipment, including autoclaves, labelers, sealers, pumps, scales, pH meters and osmometers.
  • Become familiar with the operation and maintenance of production autoclaves
  • Weigh out production chemicals for diluents
  • Perform daily, weekly and monthly cleaning and sanitation of the laboratories
  • Assist when needed in shipping diluents and vaccines
  • Complete data collection, including JDE entry

Technical / Functional Competencies:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Must follow proper documentation procedures
  • Mathematical aptitude and computer skills
  • Ability to work independently, with minimum supervision
  • Must be willing to obtain and maintain certification for forklift operation

Qualifications:

Education – High school diploma or equivalent

Work Experience – Experience in a biological laboratory or equivalent helpful but not required

Other (consider certifications, specialized knowledge and/or training, etc.) –

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to read, write legibly and communicate in English
  • Frequent squatting, bending and twisting
  • Frequent standing for extended periods
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Frequent repetition of wrist and shoulder rotations
  • Dexterity: frequent fine motor movements
  • Visual inspection and interpretation of microscopic and color standards
