Cercano Management (“Cercano”) is an SEC-registered investment manager focused on ultra-high net worth clients and the entities associated with those clients, such as a family foundation. Cercano is based in Bellevue, WA, with offices in Minneapolis, MN, Atlanta, GA, and Singapore. Cercano invests globally for its clients, commonly operating as the family office Chief Investment Officer. The team has extensive experience in direct investing in all stages of venture capital, private equity, private credit, and public equities on a global basis.
Cercano offers services for all aspects of a client’s assets or family office. The team also has experience working with clients who have significant investments in non-financial assets on a global scale, such as fine art, professional sports teams, entertainment properties, intellectual property, commercial real estate, farmland, and personal residential estates.
POSITION MISSION
We are currently seeking an associate to assist with payroll and accounting responsibilities of Cercano. This role will play an integral role in Cercano’s Business Finance Department supporting regular payroll and accounting operations of the management company. The ideal candidate is someone with excellent organizational skills, self-motivated, and detail oriented. The candidate must have strong written and oral communication skills and be able to interface with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Payroll

o Oversee the timely and accurate processing of bi-weekly payroll for exempt and nonexempt employees domestically (prepared by ADP), including detail review of payroll records.
o Manage tax and compliance through ADP SmartCompliance and work with a dedicated ADP representative on all tax related matters.
o Process all compliance reporting pertaining to payroll, taxes, and benefits including discrimination testing, and more.
o Ensure all local, state, and federal governmental requirements are met, such as taxes and withholdings.
o Detail review quarterly/annual payroll tax reports and W2s.
o Respond timely to payroll requests and resolve employee issues, including wage garnishments.
o Manage 401(k) activities and interact directly with the 401(k) administrator to ensure proper handling of employees' enrollment, loans, repayments, distributions, rollovers, and payroll contributions. Distribute plan documents and updates as needed.
o Calculate annual bonuses and record expense to the general ledger.
o Process reimbursable expenses for bi-weekly payroll, tracking tax fringe benefits.
o Assist in data entry for new hires and update payroll records for changes to employee information, benefits, job titles, exemptions, and deductions.
o Record payroll entries to the general ledger and reconcile to bank statements.
Accounts payable and vendor management
o Assist with accounts payable functions including but not limited to verifying invoices and expense reports, entering data into accounts payable system, and processing vendor payments.
o Ensure vendor payments are timely processed and assist with reimbursement for client processed vendor payments.
o Assist with daily ACH/wire process with tremendous attention to detail.
o Provide professional external and internal written communication in response to accounts payable inquiries.
o Allocate expenses to appropriate investment vehicles and relationships.
Financial close and reporting
o Assist with month and year-end close processes, ensuring all transactions are properly recorded.
o Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
o Assist with accounts receivable functions including but not limited to applying payments to appropriate accounts, monthly invoicing, and reconciling customer accounts.
o Prepare and maintain various asset and accrual accounts.
o Perform review of expense reports to ensure appropriate general ledger coding.
o Analyze the general ledger to ensure accuracy and completeness of activity.

Tax compliance
o Perform sales and use tax analysis on expenditures and prepare monthly and quarterly use tax and B&O tax return.
o Prepare annual 1099s issued to third party vendors and contractors.
General
o Apply company financial policies and established accounting procedures; assess current practices and procedures and make recommendations for improvement.
o Assist with special projects as required.
o Perform other duties as assigned by Associate Director, Finance or Controller.

Computer skills
• Experience with NetSuite or similar accounting software is advantageous.
• Experience in accounts payable and expense platforms (e.g., bill.com, StavPay, IntegriData, Expensify, or equivalent).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g., Word, Excel, OneNote, Teams, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Education/experience/certifications

Education/experience/certifications
• B.A. or B.S. in accounting, finance, or other relevant field from accredited institution
• Minimum of 2 – 3 years of payroll processing experience in a non-PEO company.
• Experience processing payroll and working in ADP.

SALARY RANGE: $66,952 - $100,428 on annual basis

SALARY DETAILS:

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including, and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity. Our discretionary bonus program is in addition to the base compensation range listed above.
