Position Overview

Primary job responsibilities include develop and lead a laboratory team, under approved procedures and processes, responsible for the safe and compliant maintenance, operation, and calibration of mass spectrometers, Non-Destructive Assay (NDA) equipment, and other laboratory functions to support NRC regulated ACO nuclear operations. 

The specific work assignments include, but are not limited to, the following activities:

  • In a positive environment, provide the technical and administrative direction, coordination, evaluation, training and coaching to the laboratory team for safe performance of assigned tasks.
  • Plans, schedules, and organizes work to ensure performance of laboratory duties, effective utilization of employees and compliance with all safety, regulatory, quality, and contract requirements.
  • In conjunction with other site operations departments, develop and implement the overall programmatic design requirements for Mass Spectrometry maintenance, calibration, and operation, including a UF6 Isotopic Standards program.
  • In conjunction with other site operations departments, develop and implement the overall programmatic design requirements for NDA maintenance, calibration, and operation.
  • Interface with groups inside and outside the organization, senior management, other locations, auditors, and client representatives.
  • Ensures all nuclear operations are conducted within the expectations and requirements of regulated programs, for example, Quality Assurance Plan, Engineering Configuration Management, Nuclear Safety, Nuclear Criticality Safety, Health Physics, and Work Control. 
  • Ensures classified material and processes in the laboratories are handled appropriately.
  • Analyzes variances in cost and schedule performance against the plan and communicates the reasons for the issuance of variance and proposed mitigation plans to management.
  • Responsible for maintaining positive employee relations.
  • May be assigned special projects and other job-related duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Strong PC skills including Microsoft software.
  • Strong knowledge of scientific processes and procedures performed by Laboratory personnel.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state policies and regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills
  • Detail oriented.
  • Previous experience in NDA (Non-Destructive Assay) and/or Mass Spectrometry is preferred.

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Chemistry, or a related science or engineering field or equivalent experience, and 2 years in a supervisory/management role 
  • At least 4 years of industrial/chemical/nuclear/laboratory plant operations experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in a similar rigorous industry or the military
  • Must be able to obtain a DOE Q clearance.

This position will require a pre­-employment background check and a pre-employment drug test.

"This position requires the successful candidate to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance. Candidates for positions requiring a security clearance are required to be tested for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR 707.4 prior to an offer of employment being made. In addition, once employed, employees will become part of a random drug testing program and may also be tested in the event of any incident causing injury or causing damage to property, or if it is determined that there is a reasonable suspicion the employee is under the influence of drugs or alcohol. This position will require a preemployment background check on the part of the Company and in order to receive a DOE security clearance, a background investigation by the Federal government. Subsequent Federal government reinvestigations may be required."
