Centric Infrastructure Group is Hiring a Network Facilities Technician II Near Dallas, TX

As an integral member of the Network Facilities team, the Network Facilities Technician II will join a network operations team responsible for the day-to-day operational support of the Centric Fiber service provider network. This is a mid-level technical position with a primary focus on the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of Centric’s data centers, colocations spaces, and hub sites. The ideal candidate will have experience installing and maintaining network facilities infrastructure in a central office, regen site, remote hut, or data center environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Install, provision, and maintain network facilities infrastructure that includes but is not limited to routers, switches, access points, optical line terminals, AC inverters, DC rectifiers, UPS, etc.
  • Utilize a web browser or terminal emulation program to configure network devices via a configuration script from the Network Engineering team.
  • Utilize Microsoft Word and Excel to create or update project network documentation as needed.
  • Utilize Microsoft Visio to create or update network facility drawings based on a design from the Network Engineering team.
  • Review and interpret work orders, wiring lists, wiring diagrams, and equipment drawings and follow standard practices in the performance of job duties.
  • Perform and/or schedule routine facilities inspection and maintenance that includes but is not limited to grounds keeping, propane servicing, physical security, solar panel alignment, etc.
  • Perform second-level (Tier 2) network problem isolation and determination. Respond to problems that are escalated by the Network Operations Center.
  • Initiate corrective action where required within the scope of knowledge and authority.
  • Practice workplace housekeeping to maintain a safe and clean environment while working in Centric network facilities or colocation spaces.
  • Work varying shifts and hours including possible mandatory overtime, and/or callouts, weekends, and holidays.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

  • Associate degree in Electronics or related field or a minimum of two years of experience installing telecommunications equipment in central office or data center facilities.
  • Working knowledge of network hardware such as routers, switches, wireless access points, firewalls, etc.
  • Working knowledge of network protocols and applications such as Ping, Traceroute, netstat, TCP, UDP, IP, ICMP, ARP, DHCP, FTP, SNMP, etc.
  • Understanding of ticket escalation, problem management, and change management procedures.
  • Basic electricity knowledge as it relates to telecommunications (through classes or on-the-job related training) including reading & interpreting circuit diagrams, equipment drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to keep up-to-date on technology supported by the NOC and ensure familiarity with new technologies to be supported by the NOC in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefer experience working in a startup environment.
  • Prefer experience working for an internet service provider offering triple-play (data, voice, video) services.
  • Working knowledge of communications technologies such as wireless, airFiber/microwave, satellite, etc.
  • Working knowledge of passive optical networks and PON technologies such as GPON, XGS-PON, etc.
  • Working knowledge of testing equipment such as OTDRs, optical power meters, voltage testers, cable testers, link analyzers, multimeters, etc.
  • Working knowledge of power backup systems such as diesel, and natural gas generators, propane tanks, grounding, etc.
  • Working knowledge of battery systems such as AC inverters, DC rectifiers, solar battery systems, etc.
  • Working knowledge of cooling systems and techniques such as hot aisle vs. cold aisle, direct expansion units, chillers, AC units, etc.
  • Working knowledge of physical security and access control systems such as automated locks, keypads, badge readers, IP cameras, etc.
  • Professional certifications – CompTIA A , Network , Cisco Certified Technician (CCT), etc.
