Central Vally Regional Center is Hiring an Advocacy Specialist Near Fresno, CA

Central Valley Regional Center (CVRC) is a non-profit corporation, funded by the State of California to provide services to persons with developmental disabilities. At CVRC, our mission is to help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and children at risk, to reach their goals. With offices in Merced, Fresno, and Visalia, we support over 27,000 individuals with developmental disabilities in the Central Valley, including Mariposa, Madera, Fresno, Tulare, Merced, and Kings counties. We accomplish this by coordinating resources and collaborating with other agencies to develop the best services for Clients and families, valuing diversity, respecting individual rights and choices, and committing to excellence, honesty, and cost effectiveness in service delivery.

Non-Exempt Part Time

Starting Pay: $18.12 – $21.63/hr.

POSITION OVERVIEW

This position creates and supports self-advocacy groups for CVRC clients. Performs individual and group outreach and education to clients. Represents CVRC individuals’ interests at public meetings and to elected officials.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Serves as liaison to client organizations, and reports on the activities of those organizations at various meetings.
  • Works with programs vendored by the regional center to help them develop a self-advocacy component within their own programs.
  • Brings information from clients back to the regional center to both improve Quality Assurance efforts and improve assessment of unmet client needs.
  • Supports and advises CVRC Primary Advisory Committee (PAC).
  • Participates as a speaker or panelist at local and state meetings, conferences, and other events to include but not limited to Grass Roots, SDP Orientations. 
  • Supports effective and efficient business practice.
  • Maintains positive business relationships, confidentiality, good attendance, punctuality, and acts in accordance with all company policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Educational achievement equivalent to graduation from high school.
  • Knowledge of the developmental disabilities service system.
  • Sensitivity to diverse cultures, ethnic and socio-economic groups. 
  • Ability to make presentations and interact with small and large groups of persons.
  • Ability to follow directions, problem solve, organize, and coordinate workload.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • If assigned, ability to use personal computer for general work assignments, e-mail, or inquiry.
  • Must demonstrate initiative, self-motivation, sound independent judgment, flexibility, strong interpersonal, skills; and excellent written and oral communication.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Required to attend monthly meetings as assigned in Merced, Fresno, and Visalia offices and must be available to carpool or arrange personal transportation.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Professional office environment. Noise level in the office is low to moderate depending on area. Individual workspace assigned and varies from open cubicle to private office.
