Summary:

The Engineering Manager, Central States Building Works is responsible to provide engineering and design support for metal building drawings, specifications, and estimates for internal and external customers. This position will be responsible for mentoring EIT engineers, driving strategic initiatives, and drafting and design activity.

 Core Functions:

  • Serve as a pre-engineered metal building expert (internally and externally).
  • Oversee and improve application of MBS software and outputs to improve building design and costs.
  • Specify and validate certifications and standards testing. Work with external professional engineers to certify and/or test designs. Provide (directly or through third party) engineering review and stamping of projects in applicable states.
  • Provides sales support for engineering requests and questions for customer requests. Create technical documentation to be used to train and develop the capabilities of the organization. Resolve engineering related design/documentation items, including customer escalations.

  • Work to improve department engineering knowledge to allow for increased capabilities for more complex structures. Mentors and oversees work of Engineer(s) In Training (EIT) and train/mentor others in product expertise.
  • Identify and utilize industry available technology to improve process efficiency. Identify opportunities for automation, productivity gains, or streamlining of processes and systems to improve design quality, lower costs, and improve customer experience. Drive continuous improvement roadmap together with other stakeholders.
  • Conduct benchmarking and analyze data to develop new designs or concepts.
  • Answers technical questions, proposes budgets for projects, and works with various other departments to ensure clarify of project scope, details, and limitations.
  • Lead and complete advanced R&D projects related to (or adjacent to) current metal building market.
  • Work with operations to ensure designs are aligned with manufacturing standards and work to find continually improvement to improve design for manufacturability.

  • Support to other stakeholders is given in timely and complete manner consistent with agreed upon service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Customers (internal and external) can get accurate and complete answers to questions and inquiries into the projects.

Education & Experience:

Minimum Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or civil engineering with 10 years industry experience
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (multiple states preferred)
  • 5 years in engineering principles, construction methods, and materials
  • 5 years’ experience with pre-engineered metal building construction.
  • 5 years’ experience and high degree of proficiency with Metal Building Software (MBS)
  • Demonstrated customer service experience.
  • Proficient in CAD/CAM software (AutoCAD, Tekla) and mechanical drafting procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage multiple projects, including engineering-led projects.

Preferred:

  • Experienced in Metal Building Software (MBS) customization.
  • Customer sales experience in metal buildings
  • 3 Years direct supervision experience.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

Work is performed in an office environment and routinely utilize standard office equipment including keyboards, computers, etc. and is required to have close visual insight to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer, extensive reading to perform the core functions listed in this job description. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies as well as communicate verbally. Work is primarily sedentary. Periodic domestic travel may be required to support customers, improvement projects, or to visit manufacturing locations.

Travel

This position will travel occasionally to support sales with customer projects, field issues and manufacturing activities. This travel will be sporadic but should not average more than a couple days a month.
