Central Regional Education Association is Hiring a K-12 School Counselor, Minot Surrounding Area Near Minot, ND

Job Title: School Counselor

Supervisor: CREA Director

Employees under their Direct Supervision: None

Terms of Employment: Contract Days -195 (full time). Part time work may vary.

FTE: Full time (exempt) or Part time

Salary: $45,000 (DOE) for Full Time

Closing Date: Open until filled

Standard Office Hours: Monday-Friday School Scheduled Hours (8-5) other times as needed to reach agency goals or job duties.

Decision Making Authority: Responsible for best interests of CREA and its clients using what has been budgeted for assigned responsibilities. Approval required from Operations Director and/or Executive Director on specific matters as outlined in policies and procedures.

Job Summary: Our school counselor will provide a comprehensive school counseling program for students in grades K-12 at assigned school(s) and specifically provide activities to meet the needs of students; consult with teachers, staff, and parents to enhance their effectiveness in helping students; and provide support to other school educational programs.

Job Description:

  • Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates professionally with colleagues, supervisors, and students.
  • Implements, evaluates, and revises the school counseling program and/or applicable curriculum based on the identified needs of the students.
  • Develops and presents classroom guidance activities in the areas of personal, social, emotional, academic, and career topics to support skill development for all students.
  • Provides small group and/or individual counseling areas to support skill development in the areas of personal, social, emotional, academic, and career topics, as needed.
  • Support the administration of appropriate academic, career, and personal/self-assessments.
  • Consults with administrators, teachers, support staff, outside agencies, and parents, as needed.
  • Responds to crisis situations when appropriate.
  • Serves as a referral source to outside agencies.
  • Other appropriate duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in School Counseling or current enrollment in an accredited school counseling program
  • Current North Dakota teaching license (or ability to obtain)
  • Current North Dakota K-12 School Counseling Credential (or ability to obtain)

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Requires high levels of interactions, mental, speaking, hearing and visual effort. Position requires high degree of concentration with continuous and often intense mental and visual attention to documents, people, and digital devices.
  • Numerous irregularities in schedules and complicated/complex tasks.
  • Stress associated with work pace and deadline pressures while maintaining professional demeanor.
  • Frequent walking, sitting, standing, and reaching plus driving or riding to client sites. Occasional climbing, kneeling, and transporting up to 30 lbs. for 8-10 hours a day.
  • Work is primarily performed in an office or school setting. Occasionally exposed to dust, noise, odors, other irritants, and exposure to small quantities of hazardous chemicals found in office supplies such as toner, glues, etc.

Special Position Requirements

  • Travel: Potentially exceeds 75%; primarily within North Dakota. Agency vehicles may be available as resources for travel; personal vehicle may be utilized for travel as applicable.
  • Clothing: Professional attire that creates positive impression on staff, clients, stakeholders, Board Members and funding or partner organizations.

Position Accountabilities, Responsibilities and Essential Functions

A critical part of every position is achieving the goals set for the position while delivering high levels of satisfaction to internal and external customers. This is realized by building positive internal individual and team relationships, positive relationships with external partners and exhibiting behaviors that contribute to the success of short- and long-term goals of the agency. These behaviors include a focus on timely completion and high quality of work (with or without supervision) while following all legal, compliance, departmental, documentation, safety, timeline, program and other standards per company policies and procedures.

Position requires close collaboration with: CREA Directors, Clients, Stakeholders, Member Schools, other Agency Employees and Community and Funding Agencies.

Performance is equally a function of goal attainment; timely and accurate completion of assignments, building positive internal and external relationships; and planning, communicating, and coordinating work to avoid last minute confusion and adherence legal/compliance guidelines and policies/procedures.
