POSITION: Head of Software Engineering and Architecture


REPORTS TO:
Chief Operating Officer


WORK SCHEDULE:
Standard business hours, Monday through Friday, with a willingness to monitor email and other systems during nonbusiness hours in case of a critical matter. Additional hours may be occasionally required in order to meet time- sensitive deliverables and deadlines.


JOB SUMMARY:
The successful candidate will be an integral member of the Central Payments’ management team. The individual must be knowledgeable in financial technology software development and systems. The candidate must possess the skills to listen and understand the business needs and in turn be able to communicate and translate the needs to coders and developers. The candidate must also be knowledgeable of the broader payments and banking market and possess a strong commitment to client service, ability to handle multiple matters, and work independently in a fast-paced, team environment.


WORK LOCATION:
Central Payments Office in Sioux Falls. Remote candidates will be considered, provided the candidate has experience effectively performing similar duties and responsibilities in a remote status, including managing people and projects as needed.

TRAVEL:
Travel is expected up to 4 trips per year, ranging from 1-2 nights per trip.


What you’ll be doing:

  • Work with Product, Application and Support teams to shape product enhancements for simplified integration, new integration capabilities, and improved integration processes.
  • Technical feature design ensuring enterprise scalability.
  • Technical competitive intelligence for integration capabilities and process.
  • Work with Partner, Product and Solution teams to shape requirements and provide ongoing communication through project execution.
  • Communicate and facilitate effectively across diverse audiences within and outside of the Agile Team (program peers, key stakeholders, executives, and partners)
  • Engaging with vendors to partners and commercialize products at scale.
  • Manage a diverse development team consisting of application architects, application engineers, quality engineers, and third-party contractors.
  • Leverage Scaled Agile ceremonies to facilitate organization and collaboration across teams/trains.
  • Keep Agile Delivery Teams/Trains focused on concrete priorities while keeping outside influences from disrupting and actively identify and remove waste and distractions.
  • Ensure all teams are providing outputs which will piece together to the desired Product deliverables and provide end to end QA leadership.
  • Ensure the technology is sound from an industry standard information security perspective in terms of code design and deployment (PCI standards as an example).
  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.

What you’ll bring:

  • Proven experience as a Sr. Software Engineer / Architect.
  • Experience in software development and coding in various languages (Ruby, C#, .NET, Java etc.).
  • Excellent knowledge of software and application design and architecture.
  • Excellent knowledge of UML and other modeling methods.
  • Experience with API design and architecture, especially in an environment requiring PCI compliance or heightened information security requirements.
  • Experience in developing and deploying software solutions in cloud-based environments (AWS preferred).
  • Understanding of software quality assurance principles.
  • A technical mindset with great attention to detail.
  • High quality organizational and leadership skills.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation abilities.

Qualifications:

  • 7 years (minimum) of software engineering and architecture experience.
  • Experience in Fintech and/or Payments industry preferred.
  • Experience with Java, Ruby, and/or C# preferred.
  • MSc/MA in computer science, engineering or relevant field.
