We believe that who you are is just as important as what you do!By joining the team as a Construction Underwriting Specialist, you will work with construction producers to produce new business and manage a territory in the large construction space, and provide value added construction services to agencies and their clients. How You’ll Make an ImpactEffectively manage and grow an assigned territory, consisting of complex, middle market construction accounts, by building strong relationships with agents, underwriting a book of business to maximize profit, and providing top notch service.Handle new business quotations and declinations in order to achieve an annual production goal.Act as a life cycle underwriter, handling a renewal book and endorsements.Provide prompt and professional service to our agents and insuredsCollaborate with regional underwriting teams on complex construction risksCollaborate with regional underwriting and marketing teams to meet financial objectivesDevelop and implement construction training for internal and external audiencesIn collaboration with Construction Director, provide technical leadership to specialized teamsBuild personal construction expertise through continuing education, designations, and construction specific conferences Design, publish, and maintain construction underwriting strategy in collaboration with underwriting leadership and in accordance with line of business financial objectivesComplete projects on time and to the satisfaction of the requestorActively engage with agency personnel to provide value added services to the agency and their clients – educational presentations, sales presentations, client / job site visits, and pre-renewal meetingsBe an active presence in the marketplace, building credibility for Central in the construction industryTravel in assigned territory, including overnight travelDevelop and maintain excellent rapport with our agents, insureds, and Central employeesAnalyze books of business and make recommendations for improvementWhat You’ll BringBachelor’s degree in related field and 8 years of Commercial Lines Underwriting experienceAchieved or actively pursuing the CRIS (Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist) designationKnowledge of Commercial Lines coverages and policies in assigned statesAbility to professionally interact with our agents and insuredsAbility to investigate, gather facts and information, and analyze coverageUnderstand the importance of capturing dataPossess an innovative and continuous improvement mindsetPossess a positive, professional, cooperative, and quality-conscious service attitudeAbility to work under pressure, deal with interpersonal conflict, and handle a heavy workloadPossess analytical and problem-solving skillsPossess verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation, presentation, and influence skillsAbility to understand Central Insurance’s policies and processes Preferred:Successful completion of one or more professional designations: CPCU or CICPrevious experience handling a construction heavy underwriting territory
