Transportation Coordinator
The Central Mississippi Planning & Development District (CMPDD) has promoted regional excellence since 1968. We aim to assist with creative regional solutions for relevant and emerging issues for our participating governments.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Classification: Non-Exempt
Department: Planning and Management
Reports to: Director of Planning and Management Division
Summary/Objective
This position provides support for CMPDD's transportation planning efforts. CMPDD is the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Central MS urbanized area. As the MPO, CMPDD is responsible for maintaining compliance with federal regulations and developing the region's long-range transportation vision, which aims to create a more comprehensive and efficient transportation system that improves the quality of life and economic outcomes for all residents. CMPDD works with multiple local, state, regional, and federal partners to develop transportation plans, prioritize transportation needs, and allocate federal funds.
Essential Functions - Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Conduct surveys, fieldwork data collection, and perform analysis related to transportation planning.
Assist key staff members in developing regional transportation plans and technical reports.
Analyze and interpret transportation information and present information to stakeholders.
Track and maintain a database of awarded grant projects.
Research best practices in support of key staff members.
Research and prepare staff report components.
Assist with the coordination of public meetings, events, and workshop logistics.
Competencies
Basic knowledge of transportation planning and regional planning concepts. Census data and computer software proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe.
Familiarity with ArcGIS Pro and geodatabase models is preferred but optional.
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, both verbal and written.
Excellent public speaking and customer service skills.
Ability to collaborate within and outside the department to achieve positive impacts.
Ability to perform effectively and efficiently with a moderate level of supervision.
Excellent organizational skills and conflict management skills.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this position, the employee will work in an office environment and outdoors. Employees may be required to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods and should be comfortable working and driving in various conditions.
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently lifts and moves up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
Required Education and Experience
Four-Year degree in Planning, Geography, Engineering, Political Science, Public Administration, or related degree.
Any combination of education, training, and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job's essential functions will be considered.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Must have and maintain a valid Mississippi driver's license.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to work in a team environment and initiative to work alone with limited supervision.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and standard office equipment.
