Central Garden & Pet is Hiring an EHS Manager Near Monroe, NJ

Our Dog & Cat business unit is searching for a results-oriented EHS Manager with 7 years of experience in manufacturing. For this role, we are seeking candidates with proven ability to develop and implement safety programs that reduce incidents and ensure regulatory compliance. Candidates must have skills in hazard identification, risk assessment, and training development as well as a passion for creating a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.
MEASURES OF SUCCESS:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain food safety programs following HACCP guidelines [HACCP stands for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points].
  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive EHS programs that encompass environmental compliance, workplace safety, and employee health.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections to identify hazards and ensure adherence to safety protocols, including but not limited to; adherence to food safety protocols.
  • Investigate and analyze workplace incidents, implementing corrective actions to prevent a recurrence.
  • Oversee the management of hazardous materials and waste disposal, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulations.
  • Develop and implement safety programs for employees, including hazard communication and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., production, operations, HR) to integrate EHS considerations into daily operations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date EHS documentation, including permits, training records, and incident reports.
  • Manage the EHS budget and resources effectively.
  • Responsible for Monitoring/reporting monthly KPIs.
  • Work with Corporate initiatives and implement where required.
  • Train employees on food safety procedures, environmental awareness, and workplace safety protocols.
  • Investigate and respond to employee safety concerns or accidents.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as production and quality assurance, to ensure overall compliance.
IDEAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as food science, environmental science, or occupational safety preferred.
  • Experience working in the food industry.
  • Strong understanding of environmental and safety regulations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other relevant safety certification a plus.
  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations (e.g., EPA) and safety standards (e.g., OSHA).

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
