This position supports the mission and work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization. The Sports & Rec Instructor develops and facilities activities presented during YMCA youth and family programs. The Sports & Rec Specialist assures an environment of trust and respect for all, in line with the YMCA of the USA guidelines and Association policies. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Demonstrate the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in relationships with colleagues, members, volunteers, vendors and guests.
• Work with members and outside organizations to recognize and address the needs of the communities through responsive programs.
• Assist in developing and implementing new youth, family and sports programs including curriculums and schedules. Lead activities as assigned.
• Set up and break down all equipment needed, as well as maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the instructional area and any materials.
• Address parental concerns and questions in a professional manner.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of programs in meeting objectives by reviewing data, reports and surveys.
• Respond quickly and effectively to accidents and incidents. Submit required reports in a timely manner.
• Actively participate in all staff meetings, open houses and other branch special events to promote the programs.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

• At least 1 year of experience managing a sports or recreation program for various age groups.
• Demonstrated ability to teach and assist in youth sport activities within a busy environment.
• General knowledge of YMCA mission and philosophy regarding youth programs.
• Must be people oriented, possess professional communication and organizational skills.
• Must have a passion for helping others, patience, and the ability to adjust to evolving situations.
• Ability to work well with youth and adults in a largely diverse population.
• Must complete new employee trainings and department onboarding.
• Must possess and maintain valid CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
