Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities the Safety Specialist assists in the development and administration of the Utility’s safety program, safety training and related safety activities; maintains safety materials and records; assists with the development and implementation of security procedures; serves as co-coordinator of safety team; subject to call; and performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of current regulatory environmental/health and safety laws and applicability.
Knowledge of required safety record keeping and documentation.
Knowledge of accident analysis and investigating processes.
Knowledge of Workers Compensation laws.
Knowledge of training methods and techniques.
Knowledge of LIGO GPS software
Ability to pay close attention to detail.
Ability to conduct work site audits for safety compliance.
Ability to develop and prepare in-house safety-related training programs.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to maintain professionalism and tactfully respond to questions, concerns, and complaints.
Ability to work outside in all types of weather.
Ability to communicate and enforce safety and security policies, procedures, etc.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
Ability to utilize computer software programs.
Ability to drive utility vehicles.
Ability to acquire and maintain CPR training certificate.
Ability to acquire and maintain American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) Trainer certification.
Ability to report information accurately and in a timely manner.
Ability to document programs and procedures.
Ability to work in confined spaces.
Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel and climb (tanks, ladders, steps, vaults, etc.).
Ability to lift 50 pounds and move heavy equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree in Industrial Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, PLUS 3 years’ experience in Environmental/Occupational Health and Safety and 3 years’ of construction experience
OR
5 years’ experience in Environmental/Occupational Health and Safety PLUS 3 years of Construction experience.
Special Requirements
· Must pass a criminal background check.
· Must have a valid Arkansas Driver’s License
· Must have and maintain a good driving record.
· Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and subject to random screening pool requirements during employment.
· Must pass a fitness exam.
· Must pass a Pulmonary Function test.
· Must be available for call nights, weekends, and holidays to respond to safety issues.
· Must maintain a personal phone for call outs.
· Must be a high-performing, innovative, value-driven, informed, and passionate individual.
Work Conditions
Works in heated and air-conditioned office environment and in a plant environment that in areas is damp, humid and with excessive noise. Works outdoors in all types of weather. May occasionally be exposed to insects, snakes, poison ivy, etc. when working outdoors. May work with or around hazardous substances.
