Overview

The Sterile Processing Technician I consistently cleans disinfects assembles packages sterilizes and dispenses complex surgical instrumentation other patient care supplies and equipment.

Responsibilities

Assures sufficient decontamination of reusable surgical instrumentation including proper sorting separating of instruments for washer decontaminator and proper manual cleaning of selected specialty instrumentation including power equipment.
Completes all appropriate sterilization documentation for steam ETO and sterrad with % accuracy.
Consistently applies knowledge of chemical disinfectants and decontamination techniques.
Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of aseptic techniques and procedures sterilization techniques and procedures infection control and work flow principles.
Demonstrates basic competency in handling complex multi-specialty operating room instruments to include disassembly cleaning and assembly of instrument sets.
Demonstrates skills in sterilization process by performing all sterilization procedures.
Maintains compliance with established policies and procedures of the Department of Health The Joint Commission OSHA CDC AAMI and AORN standards.
Seeks opportunities to learn multi-specialties.
Sterilize instruments equipment utensils linen and supplies using various types of sterilizers in accordance with established procedures.
Verifying parameters upon cycle completion.
Test effectiveness of sterilizer function by bowie dick test and biological test according to established procedure.
Uses aseptic technique to assemble all instrument procedure trays packs and kits according to established procedures.
Utilizes correct practices in handling of sterile supplies.
Wears all appropriate and required personal protective equipment when working in the decontamination area.
May perform other duties as assigned or requested and job specification can be modified or updated at any time.

Qualifications

Required Education: High school graduate or equivalent

Required Experience: Computer skills Good communication, interpersonal, and conflict management skills
