We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Infection Control Nurse to join our team at a skilled rehab nursing home. The Infection Control Nurse plays a critical role in preventing and controlling infections within our facility. As an integral member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing effective infection control strategies, monitoring compliance, and educating staff and patients on infection prevention measures. Your expertise and attention to detail will contribute to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for our residents and staff.

Responsibilities:

Develop and Implement Infection Control Programs:

Design, implement, and evaluate infection prevention and control policies and procedures specific to a skilled rehab nursing home.

Establish and maintain effective surveillance systems to identify and track infections within the facility.

Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop infection control plans and response strategies.

Monitor Compliance:

Conduct regular infection control audits and assessments to ensure compliance with established protocols, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

Identify areas for improvement and provide recommendations to enhance infection prevention practices.

Investigate and respond to outbreaks or potential infections promptly, ensuring appropriate measures are taken to control and prevent further spread.

Educate Staff and Patients:

Develop and deliver comprehensive infection control training programs for staff, including orientation sessions and ongoing education.

Provide guidance and support to healthcare personnel on proper infection control practices, including hand hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, and isolation precautions.

Educate patients and their families on infection prevention measures, emphasizing the importance of adherence to protocols.

Collaborate with Multidisciplinary Team:

Work closely with physicians, nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to promote a culture of infection prevention and control.

Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and committees to provide expert input on infection control matters.

Collaborate with local health departments and other external agencies to ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

Collect, analyze, and interpret infection control data, including rates of infection, trends, and outcomes.

Prepare regular reports on infection control metrics and outcomes for management, regulatory bodies, and quality improvement purposes.

Stay updated with the latest research, guidelines, and best practices in infection control and incorporate them into practice.

Qualifications:

Registered Nurse (RN) licensure and valid state certification to practice as an Infection Control Nurse.

Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) or related field; a Master's degree is preferred.

Proven experience in infection control, preferably in a skilled rehab nursing home or long-term care setting.

In-depth knowledge of infection prevention principles, practices, and guidelines, including those specific to long-term care facilities.

Strong understanding of regulatory requirements related to infection control, such as those set by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and develop effective solutions.

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to educate and collaborate with staff, patients, and external stakeholders.

Proficient in using computer software and applications for data analysis, reporting, and presentation.

Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is desirable but not required.
